X-rated: the TV they tried to ban
For those of you who just watched it on channel 4:
What have we learnt?
That Christians complain too much.
The other thing that shocked me is that it only takes a few hundred complaints for events to be considered serious in programming, at least serious enough for censorship. How are a few hundred xenophobic complaining christian mothers representative of the entire viewing population?

We have to put up with Songs of Praise taking up valuable time on the BBC, so these christian complainers can shut up.

might i point you to the Hitch Hikers Guide for the prove of the existence/non-existence of god?

No , you may not point me to a sarcastic science fiction book as proof of the existence of a almighty deity Dave.
Do you understand the concept of this discussion?

Re: X-rated: the TV they tried to ban
actually, imo, the argument is sound. As i understand it, the existence of God depends on faith. But if you prove beyond all doubt that God does exist, then you no longer have "faith" in him, so he can no longer exist. But, as with all things to do with religion, this is just my intereptation of things

No one can prove to me that god (supreme being(s)) exists, or doesn't exist. I will remain open minded, unless convinced otherwise.

That show pretty much sucked monkey nuts.
All it did was make me hate those 'complainers' more than anything else.

Even if God existed and this was proved, that wouldn't actually justify censorship.

Re: X-rated: the TV they tried to ban
What was the programme about?
Whatever it was, I don't agree with the point of this thread, which seems to be that simple: Christians complain too much. If something offends someone, they have a right to complain. Frankly, I think there is a strong bias in the british media against Christianity.

I didnt see that programme but some group or other were saying Jamie Oliver's show or the adverts related to it are highly offensive and shouldnt be shown. God knows what they found offensive about that.

Re: X-rated: the TV they tried to ban
I liked the fact that folks complained about the 'Human anatomy: Autopsy*' show because... *Drum roll*.....thats right it featured a live Autopsy.
They actually wrote in and complained that they were shocked and disgusted at seeing it, one woman (An especially rabid christian) decried it as evil. Then again people were complaining about a fake seance because it was satanic and evil and would set loose satan upon the earth. or the several thousand complaints about the jerry springer opera....a week before it was aired and before any of them had seen it, all organised by christian 'rights' groups.
Frankly if you are so utterly offended by some moving pictures or some naughty words, change the ****ing channel or hit the mute button. People have this impression that since they pay their TV liscence they have the right to not ever be offended, well tough shit I pay my liscence too and im not offended and you apear to be very much in the minority. Stop paying your liscence, stop watching your tv or read your ****ing tv guide to see if something sounds offensive to you. I passionately despise these people and weak willed, moral invertabrates.
*In case you dont know this show was a completely live medical show where they showed you everything they discussed.

Re: X-rated: the TV they tried to ban
it just proves how damn stupid everyone is. The fact that they all complained about brass eye only shows that they a) have no sense of humour, b) are too stupid to get the joke. Which is a shame because its the best satirical program i have ever seen.

Re: X-rated: the TV they tried to ban
But its wrong to make light of paedophillia, it needs to be scaremongered to 'Black Death' levels .
I was almost weeping at the people who couldn't see what brass eye was actually doing.

it was so obvious it was going to happen, but just by complaining they sent themselves up infinitely more than morris did.
