Scarface

So I just watched it (the one with Al Pacino, not the old black/white thingy.

I thought it rocked, even the snorting bit were he is all white from the cocaine. It reminded me of the stereotypical "highscool/college comedy" were some idiot is doing to much drugs.

So my question is, what "mafia" movies are there that are actually better than this one.

I want to see them all so please enlighten me.

Once Upon a Time in America
Carlito's Way

Have seen:

Re: Scarface

Once Upon a Time in America stars Robert de Niro, and is directed by Sergio Leone ( <3 ! )

It skips between three different generations, with Noodles (Robert de Niro) as a young boy, a big gangster figure, and an old man. It does go on a long time, and seems to finish quite abruptly at the end, but it's a good film.

The French Connection: I have heard of this one, good bad? Didn't they do a remake?

Haven't seen it myself, actually. I just missed it a few weeks ago, although from what I've heard it's pretty good.

And I think it was The Italian Job that recently got remade, not The French Connection.

It's the one where joe pesci sticks a guys head in a vice and squeezes it until his eyeball pops out, that should make it a bit easier to remember.

Re: Scarface

Yeah i remember THAT scene, but that was because it was on Tv the other day, it was a program about censorship and that was the last time anything has been censored in Sweden.

It goes soemthing like

Poor guy: **** you

Pesci: **** me? I have your head in a ****ing vice and is is me that is ****ed, **** you!

or something
So yes I remember that, but I also have small fragments of memories about other stuff. Anyway.

i will see it.

Re: Scarface

once upon a time in america is A W E S O M E ! and so are every mafia movie mentioned on this thread -

-add this to your list uhm, arketrablablabla

Gotti (this is an HBO original movie, but i'm sure it's sold in europe, an awesome true story portrayal of John Gotti, how he made 'Boss' of the Gambino's, his beginnings, his rise and fall - if it's not available anywhere in your area, this movie is so good, i'm suggesting you buy it online)
Boondock Saints
Get Shorty (funny mafia movie)
Pulp Fiction
Bugsy
The Godfather 3 (i'm assuming you already saw this since you saw the first 2)
Casino die if you don't see this movie
Heat also kill yourself if you don't see this movie

Re: Scarface

I have seen Pulp Fiction, Bondook Saints, Bugsy and Heat. I haven't seen GFIII tough. The reason is that I didn't apreciate the II, and so didn't want to further "taint" the memory of the first. I will give it a try tough.

Gotti seems interesting and might be worth a peek, tough I haven't heard of it.

Casino is planned

Re: Scarface

The Last Don is written by Puzo, and is damn good. It was a made-for-tv thing, but it's a good film.

Re: Scarface

Is it set in Sicily or America?

Falcone? Never heard of it actually.

BTW: I read a book about the Maffia a couple of days ago, it seems Sicily is the safest place for the Dons. The author had studied the age of the dons in the three large maffia organisations (cosa nostra, 'ndrang (sp?) and the Camorra. The average sicilan don was in his fifities, the average camorra don was in his thirties and the average kalabrian (ndrang) one was in his twenties.

Quite the rotation in the leadership.

'falcone' is about the sicilian judge that had to do the lawsuit against Gotti and his organisation. one of the biggest events in mafia-history the last century.

The largest one to date is the Maximprocess right?

So if I see "Gotti" and "Falcone" I get a decent picture of the events .

Only more dramatic

It is all set in America etc but the roots of Falcone are indeed Sicilian.
John Gotti was known as the Teflon don as nothing stuck to him to make charges against him.

Mario Puzo didn't write the script for 'The Last Don', he wrote the book. (Which is something totally different)

Other then that, you're 'to see list' seems to be full of fun and quality.

Lock stock and snatch are excellent, ronin aswell but I haven't seen Layer Cake. And it is yet another film I haven't heard of. Could you give me a brief summary of the plot?

Synopsis
The story of a successful London-based cocaine dealer who plans early retirement from the business. He is, however, handed an assignment which involves 'layers' through which he has to go in order to escape the modern underworld in which he is trapped. His final job threatens to bring him back into the 'cake mix'.

Very good film btw. Unexpected ending.

If it is set in Sicily then it is not about John Gotti, as John Gotti was an American-Italian.

Let's ask IMDB.

So you probably mean 'Excellent Cadavers' as 'Falcone' was a TV-series.

Excellent cadavers is indeed set in Sicily but John Gotti has **** all to do with it. This one is more about Toto Riina and the lot.
