Ok, I now have RH8.0 running under kernel 2.4.20 and everything's fine except for problems
with the added subnet. The network's obviously working as the WinME
machine hooked up to it is getting it's DHCP allocated IP address
(192.168.1.200) correctly but I can't communicate between the two machines.
If I try to ping from the linux box I get...
[gayle@server gayle]$ ping 192.168.1.200
PING 192.168.1.200 (192.168.1.200) from 192.168.1.1 : 56(84) bytes of data.

The routing table looks like this (connected through dialup)...
Code:
[root@server gayle]# /sbin/route
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface

and the ifconfig for the network adapter...
[gayle@server gayle]$ /sbin/ifconfig eth1
eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:02:44:43:60:2C
inet addr:192.168.1.1 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

Note both RX and TX packets so SOMETHING is working. Any ideas on why I
can't ping it? Or in fact do ANYTHING with it?
Unless (looking at that ifconfig) the cable's crap?
