I'm listening to Pink Floyd
for the first time ever (Wish You Were Here).
I am not overly impressed.
It's "alright" ... nothing more.
WHERE - THE - **** - DID THEIR "BRILLIANT REPUTATION" COME FROM?
Is this another NME conspiracy?

Re: I'm listening to Pink Floyd
I've only heard 'the wall'. It is very good but very long. You need to plan your evening around listening to it.

Individual songs don't really do anything; their best work is at the album level. Also, illegal products probably help.

I saw Australian Pink Floyd a few years back. They were cool, but the most impressive part was probably the visual work.

Re: I'm listening to Pink Floyd
Dark Side of the Moon
The Wall
Listen to those two albums , in a dark/semi dark room. Alone. And you will appreciate the brilliance.
Listen to them in a room filled with Stoners , you wont appreciate the brilliance, but youll convince each other that youre listening to good music. And then youll eat 6 Kit-Kat's and have to make a trip to the garage for Rizla's and munchies.

Re: I'm listening to Pink Floyd
They're the kind of band that if you don't instantly like them, they grow on you very quickly, and get better and better the more you hear them.
Like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bloodsugarsexmagik, the moer you listen to it the better it gets, still, after all these years....................................

Re: I'm listening to Pink Floyd
I'm partial to Dark Side of the Moon, but other than that I find a lot of Pink Floyd stuff a bit long winded. I far prefer their live stuff (Pulse and Delicate Sound of Thunder come to mind) to their studio recordings.
I do, however, find Brain Damage/Eclipse to be one (two) of the best songs ever, no matter what recording.

I was talking about this yesterday, and we decided that U2 are only popular because they've produced fairly generic and inoffensive rock, starting at a time when generic and inoffensive rock was a rarity.

Re: I'm listening to Pink Floyd
I'd agree with jboy in that it's the kind of music that definitely grows on your over time. It's pretty mood-dependent as well. Sunday morning is a good time for pink floyd.

Re: I'm listening to Pink Floyd
I've only heard 2 pink floyd songs that I'm aware of, the one that babbles about teachers leaving kids alone, and comfortably numb, which was recently covered by the scissor sisters.
P.S. Everything said here is vague memories, facts may be wrong, and babies may have been thrown in lakes.

Re: I'm listening to Pink Floyd
A comment I got with a little neg-rep:
"Sorry. You're quite the nice chap, at least it seems like it. But Linkin Park? That's negative in my book. Normally, a persons music taste (or any other tastes) are private, and shitting on it is kinda pointless, but LINKIN PARK?????"
I was joking. I think Linkin Park are shit. Jeez.

I find most bands that I'm not familiar with (or not a fan of) sound quite samey. To me, most U2 songs sound like the same sort of dirge, although I'm sure to their fans it's a rich tapestry.
Similarly, to me, all trance music soudns roughly the same. I guess I'm not familiar enough to pick up the nuances. I'm sure there is some sort of objective test you cold do on music to try and verify how "samey" it was (pitch or tempo comparisons or something) but most of the time it appears subjective.

Re: I'm listening to Pink Floyd
I don't like Pink Floyd, and I don't like Queen either, but both seem to be so heavily ingrained in British culture I think they find it genetically impossible to not be obsessed with either these two artists.
