Pope Not Dead
I wandered into a room with the tv on last week. It was going on about the life and times of christopher reeves, aka poor dead bastard. You know the kind of report, "he was then married to such and such, starred in blank, here's some file footage, later in life he was big in charity work and fighting for stem cell research, etc"

So I didn't have to look long to know, even though they didn't say it, the poor guy was dead.

Fast forward to this morning, when the news was going on about the life and times of Pope JP II. His life during the war, how he reacted, his fight against Communism which overtook his beloved Poland. So of course I assumed he was dead. What with being older than dirt and sicker than bin Laden, he was a file footage montage waiting to happen.

Except that he wasn't dead, apparently he just came out with a book. Possibly titled "Stuff You'll Hear About On The News The Day After I Kick The Bucket"

So I'd like to request that file footage-intensive news stories about the life and times of old sick people have a blinking "Not Dead" in the corner somewhere. It's really not asking much.

Anyway.

Not the Pope*.

i like the pope.

he renewed a sense of spirituality in me after i saw him at easter 2 years ago.

i cant explain it tbh and im sceptical of religion as a whole but there was just something about him and what he said.....i cant really explain it tbh.

My mother was an Irish ex-Catholic and was raised in a fairly bitter orphanage where Nuns would randomly beat children, and the most appalling religious dogmas were propogated. As such, her bitterness rubbed off on me a bit.

Well, I'm a Christian, and I find Catholicism difficult to comprehend, so I guess I can't contest that point too strongly. However, I would probably look at it the other way round.
Fundamentally, Catholics have the right idea; it's just all got a little muddled somewhere along the line.
