Re: So what's this thing going on in Paris?
It could of got worse in birmingham by the way. Kudos for the way the police handled it. I have never seen that many police in Handsworth because they are normally too scared to enter it. But there presence dettered further violence and deaths.

Also maybe its about rioting against the system no certain people. How can you kill the system, you cant there is no one person, so why kill your own people.

Systems, like organisations, thoughts, paradigms can be fougth and got rid of.
However, it is not as simple as trashing a house. Taking it apart brick by brick.
Fighting concepts is far less tangible and takes, in general, far more thinking and time.
Burning cars however, shall never be a key element of that thinking.

Re: So what's this thing going on in Paris?
ofc not, to overthrow the system simple rioting wont do it. However it sends out a message. What the rioters need is a political movement someone like le pen but not racist. Someone fighting for there cause and who can bring change. Failing that storm the french government building and march on paris. Might as well do it old Sk00l. France to be the next communist stronghold?

Re: So what's this thing going on in Paris?
France was almost communistic after WWII, if it wasn't for the US using visibly and invisibly a massive network to hold them out of the goverment, just like they did in Italia.
In Italia they actually worked together with the maffia to work against the communists.

Yup. In many of the occupied countries the resistance was very Communist dominated (Yugoslavia, Greece, Italy, etc). The Washington attempt to subvert these movements is one of the most interesting events after WW2.
However the French Communist Party in the post-war period were a bit rubbish, imho. They acted as a reasonably well disciplined voting block, but they made very little impact in spreading this message further (and suffered from the usual Stalinist tendencies). More recently the French radical left has done a rubbish job at reaching out to the new immigrant communities as a source of support. The French far-left response to these disturbances have hardly been brilliant.

The last ten nights will have done more to improve the living standards of those african and arab communities than decades of petitioning and campaigning. Politically they didn't matter. Now they do.
PS It's getting worse.

They've called all the people involved scum and threatened them with life on Devil's Island. What more could any reasonable person ask for as a means to resolve these kind of complex socio-economic problems?

Is this a joke? The PCF were probably more Stalinist than Stalin himself.
Calling the French Communist Party "a little rubbish" during the Cold War is a bit like calling David Icke "a little weird". These people were so far up Moscow's backside didn't even approve of Eurocommunism ffs.

Well, I doubt it comes under the heading of "reasonable" but I'm surprise the army hasn't been sent in. It was only four days before the US Army were sent into LA after all.

Well, one person has died now as a cause of the riots - how long can it be before the army is deployed?
Also, what are the chances of riots happening in other countries? There's already been one riot in Belgium, I wonder how bad the situation is in the suburbs of other European cities...

That's not really true at all. The PCF lost over 3/4 of its members, and 21 of its 72 deputies following the signing of the Nazi-Soviet pact, an unexpected alliance which caused the PCF to either follow the Soviet line and reverse almost a decade of fervent anti-facist campaigning, or break with the Comintern and follow their own path.
Under Thorez, they decided to follow the party line, and as a result, the party was bandoned in droves. Following the June 22 1941 invasion of the USSR by Germany, there was another political realignment and the PCF was once again anti-Nazi. But they learned from this and from that point on the PCF was one of the European communist parties leact beholden to the USSR. Stalin himself wrote the French communists off for their habit of arguing with every comintern directive in the post-war years, and the communists, despite their many sucesses as resistants during the war, were never a danger to take over the government of France.
While the PCF was certainly strident in their beliefs, and often at odds with the French government, they were never in Moscow's pocket, they were stubborn and beligerent entirely of their own account.

Re: So what's this thing going on in Paris?
Amusing comment from Tam Cowan in the paper the other day: "Jacques Chirac was quoted as saying that he has no idea how to stop the French people from fighting. Why not tell them the Germans are about to invade?".
