I think the irony is supposed to be that the guy is talking about how far black people have come but he's doing it in a way which can best be described as illiterate. Or that talking about how far black people have come in that sense is ironic because it's not like they started off on some sub-human plateau and struggled their way up to the standard of the mighty white nation. There might also be some irony involved if ceres posted this thread in reference to my first sentence but without recognising the validity of the second.
