The deputy stood in the middle of the dusty street, his back to the sun, staring at the man said to be the fastest gun in the west, Kenny the Kid. Finally, he'd found him. The Marshalls were looking for him, but Kenny was as elusive as ever. What was he doing in Coarsegold? No matter. As much of a lawbreaker and a hooligan as he was, Kenny still had his honor, and rather than shoot the deputy in the back, had challenged him to a duel. The Kid was facing the setting sun, the deputy standing between him and freedom, in his own mind.

"Draw!" Kenny waited

As the deputy went for his six shooter, Kenny lept into action and before the deputy could even aim his gun, he was down. His left ear shot clean off. And Kenny hadn't missed. He walked over to the deputy, laying on the ground, bleeding in pain.

"The next time anyone asks about Kenny the Kid, you tell them about your little souvenir. Maybe you could say you've........HEARD of me? Get it? Hah! Nobody outdraws Kenny! Nobody! "

That was the last Coarsegold had seen of him.

In the Spring of 1880 the town of Coarsegold California began to change. The economy had been good since the gold rush, and the small community had progressed. A new school marm had been brought in to help educate the towns youngsters. It seemed as if things would only improve. One day however, the post office was closed for violating postal regulations. Then a local store was closed. The local handyman has had quite a bit of work to do lately, nailing "Closed" signs to doors that he is ordered to board up. At the rate things are closing for all their violations, soon there won't be any Coarsegold left. What remains are the towns physical features, such as the small gorge to the west and the almost out of place swamp to the east. A bridge crosses the gorge and connects to a dirt road that leads to some bigger cities, though it takes awhile to travel to anywhere important. The most prominent of the remaining local businesses and services are

Occupation: Local Padre
Simon Novalis was born in the city of Baku on the shores of the Caspian sea, and was taken in by Roman Catholic monks at a very early age once his parents found themselves unable to cope with providing for him. He eventually moved to Rome and officially trained as a priest.
Once he had taken his vows, he found himself still nott fitting in with the italian culture- a barrier he had hoped to overcome. He had no impetus return home, and found himself with no real home. It was as he was debating his options one day that he heard a street crier offering cheap deals for immigration to America; "The Land Of Opportunity". It sounded perfect.
A month later he was walking the streets of New York, then joining a trade caravan bringing supplies west. All the time he found his sense of rootlessness raging unabated- nowhere felt like home, anywhere they stopped was just a sidetrack. This carried on for months on end until the caravan's travel was rudely disrupted by an Indian attack shortly after crossing the mountains. Knocked low by the kick of his own horse, he was left for dead whilst the supplies were raided. He lay for three days slipping in and out of conciousness before he was found by travellers, who took him to the nearby town of Coarsegold. As he was forced to a further month recuperating, he slowly came to know the small town, and it's inhabitants, and, shocked by it's lack of spiritual guidance, set up an unofficial mission.

History: Wandering Horse, a redskin, had earned the respect of the inhabitants of Coarsegold years ago, back when he came here with his father. He's proven himself to be an able warrior and rider, aswell as an acomplished blacksmith, and has come to like the people of this here town, but still.. he did not trust the whiteskins... he did his job, and did it well, but rarely ventured deeper into town than the groceryshop, or the ranch of one of the owners whose horses needed new footing, and kept to himself most of the time

History: Kathleen grew up as a young child in a small town several miles off from Coarsetown. Her mother having died during childbirth she lived with her Father, the local blacksmith, until death took him four years before. After that, everything changed. When a group of women and children travelling to join husbands that had gone after the gold in california stopped over in their town, Kathleen went with them. As they neared their destination Kathleen decided to leave the group, she had brought her money with her and seeing the (then booming) economy of Coarsetown set up house there, as an apprentice to the barber.

Occupation: Inn Keepers Wife (I wanted to be female and historically a woman in 1880 california was either a wife, a waitress, or a whore and I just like to stay accurate, call it neurotic )
History: Born to a wealthy Welsh family in Maryland, she was well educated and used to the finer things in life. However, as was common with young women in her situation, her parents only sought for her a good marriage. Betrothed to Rhys Llewelyn, son of another wealthy Welsh family, from an early age. They married when she was 16 and Rhys left a year later to seek his fortune. Two years later he sent for her to join him in California. As Rhys had made little mention of his situation in his letters, she didn't know quite what to expect and was less than thrilled by the hotel. She has only been in Coarsegold for about three months, leaving her still trying to adjust.

Gwendolyn's background has left her nieve and closed minded. She looked forward to making a life in California to avoid the increasing surge of immigrants (unknowing of the large number of chinese immigrants). Her world has now been shattered and she tries to recapture her old life while dealing with her situation at hand.

Name: Duke
Age: 25
Occupation: Somewhere between a tumble weed and a sharp point stick. Duke blows into and out of town like a tumbleweed, and if something makes him, he'll stay in your side like a sharp stick.

History: Duke is simply a wandering hoodlum who occupies himself with beer and improving his aim. He has an infamous nickname that no has really heard (he considers it infamous) that is Duke the "Dangeoursly inaccurate." When shooting, more or less everyone but his target gets hurt in some way or another. Duke found a cowboy hat in his grandpappy Waldo's attic and decided he wanted to become one. When he was 20, he bought himself two Sixshooter Smith and Weason revolvers, and a repeating rifle that he out fitted with a makeshfit scope. Duke also now where a grayish trench coat type jacket and his current hat is gray, so his nickname has been updated to Duke the Dangerously Inaccurate Ghost.

It is the dawn of a new day. Monday morning in Coarsegold. The arid climite has become normal, and on the horizon are only a few clouds. The school children walk down mainstreet towards the school house where the new "school marm", the very attractive, single, young, Ms. Pinnelope Prim awaits them. The town doctor, Doc Gilespe, is already in the bar, where he spends most of his time. The Sheriff posts a wanted poster outside the jail stating

Seemingly in response to the sudden surge of people being forced to move out, the bank has a sign out front offering to buy any properties the owners are willing to sell. Early last week the bank began forclosing on many of its debtors, reposing and closing things such as the "Tall and Thin" shop and the Jeweler. Both owners had since been forced to leave town. Sheriff Shift mounts his horse and heads to the restaurant for some morning coffee.

History : Sam was raised by his addoptive father, Gregs, who was in his 60's when he found Sam, Gregs tought Sam all the things a young kid needed to know, as well as a few other things, Gregs was killed when the railway tried to buy his farm, and Sam was only 17 years old when he took them all down, This effected Sam greatly and he went into hiding for 2 years, pondering his actions, untill today, when he appeared in town again, 6 shooters ready incase the railway agents were back

his scoped rifle resting across his lap and held as if it were an extension to his arm, Arthur surveys the town from a distance and desides that it is indeed a relatively oblivious town, out here so far from anything

Muha walks slowly into the town square, looking round and noticing several ladies eyeing him, as always happens with his ruggedly handsome'ness(), eyeing the bar, he walks inside and looks around

MUHA
As you enter the bar, Doc Gilespe is sitting in his usual spot near the door drinking whiskey and is drunker than you've seen him in a long time. Around one of the tables in the back sit a group of cowboys you haven't seen in the area before. William McNeville, the Banker, sits at another table with one of Coursegolds residents, in the midst of what appears to be a heated discussion.

Muha strolls over to McNeville and the resident, spurs clanking

"Anything i can do to make this arguement be resolved?"

Opening the door to the seminary wide to let in the cooler morning air, Father Simon looked out at the town beyond the white fence of the small sanctified cemetery. Unsure as yet whether to go on his morning rounds or wait in the high ceilinged building for people to come for confession- a lot of people in this town were protestant, or just plain godless, but he served them all, and in this land people often needed someone to listen without judgement or threat of retribution.
Pulling out his shaving gear, he dipped a small bowl into the water butt next to him and proceeded to shave, watching the street for any signs of interest.

MUHA
The Banker, looking somewhat perturbed, looks up at you with a trace of contempt.

"I HIGHLY doubt it. I was just explaining to Mr. Fish here the advantages of selling his property to the bank before the property values here drop even lower than they already have. Unfortunately, Mr. Fish seems to think this God forsaken wasteland of a town will pull through this crisis. Things a passing ruffian such as yourself wouldn't understand I'm sure."

Turning back to Mr. Fish he addresses him again as he stands up to leave.

"You think about that Mr. Fish. If you don't sell now, you'll soon find yourself in serious financial problems. Now if you gentlemen will excuse me..."

With that, he turns and walks out the saloon doors.

ANARCHARNATE
After shaving in peace for quite some time, you have almost finished when the overweight banker, William McNeville, quite suddenly bursts through the doors of the saloon looking quite irritated. He mutters under his breath as he storms down the street to open his bank for the day. He unlocks the front door and enters.

MAD CAT
As you survey the town, the residents can be seen beginning their daily routines, the children heading to school, the Sheriff making rounds, and the various businesses opening up for the day. The only thing that strikes you as odd is the sheer number of business that appear to be boarded up and abandoned. Obviously an old mining community, the Assay office is boarded closed as are a number of other local commercial enterprises. Some look as though they've been closed for quite some time, while others appear much more recent, as some of the buildings look almost new.

spurrs his horse to a fast walk and rides into town, right down the middle of the "street" ignoring everyone untill he reaches the bar, whereupon he slides off the horse, ties it up with the rifle in a blanket and walks inside, he heads straight to the bar and asks for a glass of water and a shot of whisky

Washing his straight blade in the bowl of water, Father Simon stood up. Confessions would have to wait.
Walking to the bank, he slowly opened the door.
"Mr McNeville. Couldn't help but see you agitated- is there anything me or the Lord could do to help you?" he said gently in his soft accent.

Muha swings around and grabs the Banker by the shoulder

"I think we have some things to talk out, and fortunatly for me, i let my guns do the talking..."

Watching as the ruggedly handsome teen stormed into the bank and accosted McNeville, Father Simon quickly moved forward to try and split the men
"Now, now, what is this? There is no need for threats or aggravation. I don't believe i know you, young man, but here in Coarsegold we let our talking do the talking before anyone whips out a gun- so what is the matter?"

Occupation - Inn Keeper
History - Born into some wealth and opparcitsed in the finer operpations of life, though is a hard worker regardless. A marrigae being arranged for him mostly, to his much younger wife, depsite that he cares for her greatly. Moved to California in an effort to find a fortune, or so people claimed. Only to find a wasteland on povety and hardship instead, stopping in the town of Coarsetown taking over the inn with what little money was left, sending eltters to his wife ona regualr basis as soonas he was settled in.

His wife Gwendolyn now having joined him to make a life out of the slowly dying economy of Coarsetown.

Short Intro Post -

Looking out of the window into the newly brought morning, glancing across the dusty streets as he opens doors of the inn for another day of business. Sighing to himself hoping it would be better today. There were not amny new travelelers willing to stay in town recently.

*Staring longingly into the mirror at the elaborate curls in her hair she meticulously set, her thoughts returning to her home back east momentarily. Sighing she looks once more before pulling a simple cloth bonnet a top the curls to protect her hair from the dusty land. Standing up slowly, she turns and goes about the morning chores.
Grabbing the pail by the door she heads out to the pump for water to start breakfast, struggling with the pump a little, still getting used to doing it for herself. Lifted the now full bucket she heads for the front steps, glancing up at the hidiously prominant "Dirty Sheets Hotel" sign. Rolling her eyes a little she looks back to the doorway now occupided by Rhys. Smiling at him then glancing up at the sign again, setting the bucket down on the porch before speaking"
"Rhys, perhaps we can change the hotel's name soon? I do not know what the last owner was thinking but that name is not all that inviting."

The voice of Gwendolyn voice drawing him away from the sights on the street, galncing up at the sing himself modding sliogthy.
"yes you are right of coruse, been thinking about it myself just what to call it is the hard aprt. Any suggestions?"
His gaze dropping down to look at her a gentle smile on his face.

"Now, is that any reason to point a gun at someone? Surely there are better things you could be spending your time with than worrying about a local banker!" Simon smiled gently, but with an effort not to sound patronising.
"And you can stop smirking, Mr McNeville- i heard you talking to James O'Haley yesterday. Why are you being so short all of a sudden? I've half a mind to let this man free at you!"

*Gwendolyn glances up at the sign once more, pondering. Her eyes gazing across the dying town. Her gaze returning to Rhys she thinks for a moment. A smile creeps onto her lips as she comes up with an idea.*
"Well since we really need to attract people....anyone who might pass through here.....we need it to sound cheap and yet nice. How about the Two-bits hotel? Make it the cost for the room."
*She grins a little* "But of course that doesn't include breakfast and such."

Movng from the porch area quitly slip upstirs to nt distrub any sleeping guest, lsipping out onto the roof from the window unhooking the sing as it hangs from its hinges to pull it inside. Coming out a while later with a new one surpingly well done despite it not being Rhys bets talent.

Duke took careful aim at his target. He was crouched behind a rock, with his rifle out, and one bullet in the chamber, that was all he needed. The cactus stood tall and swayed a little in the slight breeze. The sun was high in the sky, night quite noon, around ten. Duke waited for the approaching tumbleweed to blow by, and he fired. A loud shot broke the morning tranquility about Coarsegold. Duke hopped over the rock and put his canteen up to the hole he made in the cactus. Once he had a good amount of water, he put a rock in the hole, so the cactus would live, and then he put the water into a pot, and hard boiled two quail eggs he found abandoned.

After finishing his meal and putting out the small fire, Duke walked back to town, a good 10 minute walk. He had spent the night wrapped cozily in his quilt that he carried, on the outskirts of town. Duke perferred to sleep away from towns incase they were attacked by outlaws. He really needed a horse, because most of his traveling was done by walking around. He walked down mainstreet with his rifle on his across his shoulders, supported by his left hand. Duke looked over at the hotel owner and his wife, then he heard a comotion in the bank so he went to check it out. The town priet, banker and a gentleman he didnt recognize were arguing, and it looked like the banker and gentleman would kill each other.

Duke dropped his pack on the ground so as to get everyone's attention. They all turned and looked at him, startled by his sudden appearance. "Any one know where I can get a horse?" He asked polietly, still holding up his rifle.

*Gwendolyn returns inside and sets the water to boil, slicing the bread she made last night as she waits. Sighing as she begins to add the grains to the water to make porridge, stopping herself quickly remembering there are only a few guests about. One or two had probably already packed up and left in the night as they sometimes did. Probably on the run from the law or maybe just in a hurry to get out of Coarsegold. It had been becoming more and more desolate and dangerous. She was thankful they had a pay upfront policy
Thinking to herself she wishes they could move, try someplace else, but there was no money to go anywhere. It was always a day to day struggle especially with the damage the drunks often caused. Everytime they got ahead, they would quickly end up behind. It was just so different from their lives in the east, but she didn't dare ask her family to send money. Their pride was too strong, even if their families would help, but that was not the usual way.
Sitting down at the table, Gwendolyn waits for the others to join her. Her chin resting idly on her hand.

Coming into the room seeing Gwendolyn resting on her haands, steping behnd her to gentle to aplce a kiss upon her head.
"Im sorry, you mnust ahte me for dragging you out here. I didnt know it would turn out this bad, id hoped you have nice hosue to come her to and we could live happly instead of struggling to mame a living."
Sighing to himself as his words are filled with regret and lsot hopes.

ANARCHARNATE, MUHA, DISRUPTER
McNeville takes the opportunity of Duke's comming to shift the conversation away from himself

"Well my good fellow, first place I'd try is the stables, near the ole blacksmith shop. Father, thank you for helping to calm this hooligan. I simply go about my business and he starts demanding things from me."

*Turning to Muha he continues*

"I don't know WHO you are or who you THINK you are, but unless you have some property you wish to sell or perhaps put some money in the bank.....I don't believe we have anything to discuss"


HEWITT
Sheriff Shift enters the Sheriffs office/jail to find you cleaning out your guns.

"Hey boy, yer a mite on the late side today. Thars a small squabble goin on outside the bank, I want you to go and take care of it for me......" He lowers his hat and voice as he continues "I've got other things to take care of"

With that he leaves the building, unhitches his horse, and rides off.

DARKLING, DRAGONSJEM
The Sheriff hitches up his horse outside the Two-bits hotel. He scoffs at the new sign, and walks inside to the reception desk.

"Rhys? Gwen? This is the Sheriff! Where are you? We've some.......urgent matters to attend to!"

MAD CAT
An assistant barman (until acidk posts ) chuckles at your request.

"Water? You want water you better go dunk your head in the horse trough out there. In here, we pour whiskey."

He pours up a shot of whiskey which steams as it overflows onto the bar.

"Say stranger, I haven't seen you around these parts before. Are you just passin through?"

[Darkling]

Hearing the sheriffs words ring through to the kitchen area, placing his hands gnetle on Gewndolyns shoudlers smilling.
"We better go see what he wants, seems improtant"
NOt waitng tos ee if she follows walks out to the reception to look upon the sheriff, sitting atop his horse trying to display an air of imprtoance about himself. Rhys stepping out onto the porch
"What is it sheriff? not to sound rude but we do have a hotel to run though you may not consdier it as such"
Rhys diudnt have much time for this man hedespite spending a few months here he found him rather to gruff and rough around the edges.

DARLKING
The Sheriff looks down at you and smirks.

"Well now boy it seems as though you've gone and changed the name of yer fine establishment here. Unfortunately it ain't gonna do no good, cause I'm forced to have you shut down. You see this here buisiness of yers has been attractin the wrong KIND of business. If I ain't mistaken all those ruffians in the saloon are roomin up here. Terrible for the community you know. So from now on you just keep the front door locked. If you can't make a "Closed" sign, I can have Benny come and nail one up for ya."

Looking at your newly posted sign he adds

"But looks to me like you've got yerself some sign makin materials already."

[Darkling]

His face scowling at the mans words, his very tone almost sickening
"You lack grace sherrif you dont even know how to tell somone their living being atken away from them just becuase people wander in the steet. Now a lot of people wander this way, doesnt mean they are all coming to visit here. I only wish business was as good as you sad but sadly it has not."
Taking a steady pasue to seem to onder somthing
"I dont mean to question yuor authority but I would like to see some propper authorisation, or documents that give you right to close us down. If everyhting is in order then ill guess we will have no chocei but to, but only if it is all in order untill then your word is not enough in this case as you lack propper proof"
His accent clearly ringing through as well as the lfiestyle he grew up in, knwing what dangerous griound he walked on right now biut for Gwendolyns sake he could not back down now.

[Zorro]

The Sheriff is taken aback at first by the questioning of his authority, then as the reality sinks in, becomes more forceful.

"Now you listen here boy. Even if you're establishment wasn't causing all these problems in town, as you know theres some new town regulations. I've been charged to keep this here town safe by the mayor hisself. Now you don't have to leave, but you keep the front door locked ya hear? You're closed. I'll be back this way later. If'n I don't see a closed sign out front, it'll be the jailhouse fer you. But take my advice son, you don't want to be sticking around these parts, it's getting more and more dangerous around here and a lawman such as myself can't keep everyone safe at once."

With that he rides off towards the sheriffs office.

History: 30 years ago a man walked into the city. This man, Bakan kept to himself for most of the time, living in a hotel. Apparently he had a large amount of money on his person, odd for someone so young. Eventually he bought up the small Diner/Cafe in the city, taking it over from it's previous owner. Not much is known about this man, except he carries a pistol all the time, and has been known to have a few shotguns near the register.

Duke tipped his hat towards the banker, and picked up his bag. He turned and left and went straight to the stables, being nearly run over by the sheriff as he left the sheriffs office. He stumbled in and notcied that and India was behind the counter. " 'scuse me sir but how much would it cost for a horse and food, as well as for the supplies like saddles?"

Muha grabs the banker by the collars and shakes him ruffly

"I wont do you this time, but NEXT TIME, your not gonna have the father to protect you"

Muha throws him to the dirt and turns to the priest

"Do you still take confessions father?"

[Zorro]

DISRUPTER
The stableman looks at you for a moment before speaking.

"Well I don't believe I've seen you around these parts before, but if'n yer in a hurry to leave town, I can sell you a fine horse for only $80. I figure feed, saddles and I'll, I can cut ya a deal and give you what you need for $90. Normally it would cost more but I get compensated for any losses when people are in a need to leave town."

MUHA
The banker quickly pulls himself to his feet. Being overweight and as out of shape as he is, he decides not to continue. He looks as though he is about to say something, but then turns and enters the bank leaving you out in the street

*Gwendolyn having followed silently comes out from behind the door where she had stood listening, a worried look on her face. Her hand slipping into Rhys as they watch the sheriff leave before she looks up at him*
"How...how can he blame us for all this touble". *She shakes her head*.."Most of the toublemakers don't even stay in the town, let alone at our hotel." *Sighing she squeezes Rhys hand as she gazes blankly toward the town.* "How are we going to survive this.........?"

Sighing to himself taking Gwendolyns hand tightly in his, looking at her
