So Napster's back........
............and now it's pay-per-listen!
Does anyone think this will work? Especially seeing as napster has seen it's userbase move everywhere else? Will people move back looking for a reliable, easy-to-use, comprehensive file-sharing engine or will that strange boundary which makes paying for things on the internet just irritating prevent it from reaching it's once glorious heights?

It won't work if you can get stuff free from elsewhere.

Apple's success suggests otherwise. Apparently there is a market, if you can capture a share.

Re: So Napster's back........
Thet've attached too many strings. If it were just a straightforward 9.95 month it was possible, but adding a further charge for burning it is off-putting.

"The tracks are in Windows Media format, so they are compatible, and can be transferred to, a large proportion of portable players on the market, apart from Apple's iPod."
Won't even consider using it unless I can play the songs on my iPod and in iTunes. I'll just carry on downloading them for free....

Re: So Napster's back........
The only music I've legitimately downloaded (as in paid for) was from Warp Records's Bleep store. And that was only because they give you them in mp3 instead of some DRM infected shitpile of a format. Unfortunately their catalogue isn't huge (Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, LFO... now I'm struggling).

Blame the BBC, it's what they said.
They also said 'Sharing Britney's tracks might be fun'

Even DRM infected ones? If not then that's not a great deal of help when you're trying to put rights-protected tracks from Napster onto your iPod
