Frequency Over Range

I've looked on Google - some other guy has same problem but no resolution.

The bastard engineers were replacing the DVD-ROM I mentioned in another thread I had problems with. Somehow he's managed to cause this ****ing annoying "Frequency Over Range" error message appear on my screen (I can't use anything). I reinstalled Windows and it logins fine BUT I can't access any resolution over 1024*768 otherwise the error message appears again - the screen will turn off (although the PC is still running) then if you type a key on the keyboard, the screen returns to its previous state and back to 1024*768. LIKE WTF? This seems to suggest refresh rate - but the same refresh rates I had before the engineer buggered it all up don't work (how can they work before but not now) and it's not high either (70Hz) - grrrr!

Pllllease help thanks

Re: Frequency Over Range

frequency over range means your monitor can't handle the refresh rate or the resolution you're trying to set it into. Normally lowering refresh rate should allow a higher resolution, but I'm not 100% sure about that

Re: Frequency Over Range

This is the thing though, anything *above* 1024*768 all of a sudden no longer works, regardless of the refresh rate being 85Hz or 60Hz when before the engineer came, it was fine. I'm not paying to have this bastard probably muck it up again. He's not answering his calls (no surprise).

Re: Frequency Over Range

I've done a more refined search using another search engine - a lot of people have experienced this problem but no-one has posted a fix.

There is one guy that says the reason is due to the "monitor losing its clock and the ability to sync-on-green" - wtf this means is another matter. So it's either the GPU or Monitor that's at fault!

Re: Frequency Over Range

hmm
Are the right drivers for your monitor installed? It could indeed be that your video-card is sending the wrong signals. Low res should all work exactly the same, but that might not be case for high-res

Re: Frequency Over Range

This problem looks like a monitor problem. A new graphics card has been installed and the same problem occurs although now 1152 * 768 can be supported at 100Hz for some strange reason where as before it wouldn't go above 60Hz - stranger still, the monitor doesn't support 70Hz or 72Hz before the error message pops up but does support 85Hz too with 100Hz (at 1152*768 res) - grr
