Oh please, you can't make noncompetitive industries like schools and nodrog into a valuable part of the private sector. You'll just end up putting more money into the project to get the same result, as the company will demand profits.

Well, I don't like that one bit. Nodrog should be paid for by public money, and publically owned. It's this sort of attitude that has resulted in so lax standards as private bodies run Nod solely on profit lines.
And how exactly do we keep the running of Nodrog accountable? It's a ridiculous situation.

The trouble is, too much of a mess has been made; we're not likely to get a government bringing nodrog back into the public sector because the results won't be immediately seen, and so the will gain less public support than more short term endeavours.

This is all about political will and recognising long-term societal benefit. It may be hard for a government to buy back Nodrog in the short term, but the eventual rewards in increased service will be a rich bounty, for all, and the government will be certainly rewarded electorally.
In any case, vital services like Nodrog should not be in the hands of private capital. They are vital national resources that only belong in the hands of the state, and the nation.

That is not the issue here, the issue here is whether nodrog is a resource that should be trusted to the private sector.

I respectfully disagree, I think that private capital is important , we have a third rate Nodrog because of decades of underfunding

The government will simply have to realistically consider it as an option in the immediate future, or Nodrog could face a total collapse.
The political will will emerge soon enough. This issue is rising in the political agenda stakes constantly.

That underfunding will become more acute in the private sector, as nodrog is not a competitive industry.
[edit - Reply to MM:]
Oh please, there isn't any political impetus for drastic change of this kind whilst the blairites are unthreatened politically. Changes must be wrought!

Our decision here should be based solely on how to get that investment in; in the long term, that can only come from government.
I don't want to descend to the level of yah-boo politics over who created the mess Nodrog is in at the moment. What matters is how to guarantee quality of service for the future.
