Tour de France 2005

as every summer i will spend 3 weeks in front of my TV, watching 'le Tour' . it starts next saturday with a time-trial over 19km.
again i signed up to various 'tourgames', together with 10.000's other people all over the country. the game-element just gives another dimension to watching, especially when many friends, colleagues and relatives do this aswell.
the last days i've been puzzling on my 'ideal selection of 20 drivers'. and now i've finished it:

1. Armstrong
2. Ullrich
3. Vinokourov
4. Menchov
5. Boonen
6. McEwen
7. Rogers
8. O'Grady
9. Basso
10. Mancebo
11. Mayo
12. Cooke
13. Hushovd
14. Azevedo
15. J.P. Nazon
16. Valverde
17. Landis
18. Eisel
19. Karpets
20. Pereiro Sio

Substitutes
1. Botero
2. Kirchen
3. Totschnig
4. McGee
5. Kloden

Winner yellow: Vinokourov
Winner green: Hushovd
Winner bolls: Rasmussen

if you are into cycling, please comment. i'm curious about your opinion.

Re: Tour de France 2005

what is the point of that selection? is it the best 20? or who you believe would be your 'dream team'
you have a lto of individuals there, not sure how good a team they would make

i do think that lance armstrong is going to win it again though

EDIT: due to various things i really haven't had time to have a good look at the build up this year, however, the official site (letour.fr) is even shitter that normal and has the grand total of NO ****ing useful information

it's a selection for a game where you select a cyclists who you think are going to score the most 'points' .. points for a victory, points for every day in the general classement, points for ze mountains etc

Re: Tour de France 2005

Hans:

Aitor Gonzalez isn't even competing.
i hope Posthuma does well ofc, but i'm already happy if he even reaches Paris.

rr:

this is my team for the game that a local newspaper organises every year. about 4000 people where joining last year if i remember well.
every day they keep score for everyone. you can win prizes per day, but the best prizes are for the overall rankings ofc.
so many people go for a day-victory and make teams that only consist out of specialists. i always make a mixed team as that's the most fun to play and gives you best chances on a high endranking.

the pointsystem goes like this:

#1 = 30 pts
#2 = 26
#3 = 22
#4 = 19
#5 = 17
#6 = 15
and then countdown to rank #20, which gives 1 point.

you get 10 points per day that you have the yellow jersey in your team.

-12 points for a driver that quits.

50 points per correct prediction on the endrankings for the yellow/green/bolls jersey.

a top20 endrank doubles the amount of points the driver has received during the races!

oh and the subs only get in when drivers don't start the first race. they don't replace drivers during the Tour itself.

Re: Tour de France 2005

cheers, though it was something like that, but wasn't sure. It would help if i had any decent info

do you two have any links to the teams this year (i can guess most of them) and the actual course route (like they did last year) would be a help

First 8 days flatbed? then 5 heavy ones and then another one ... I think that even petacchi can get over those mountains

Re: Tour de France 2005

Hans: Petacchi isn't competing aswell, just as Freire btw. maybe you now see why i have Eisel.

the best combination is probably 11/12 people for the mountains and/or time-trials (read: endrankings) and 8/9 sprinters. also pay attention to what kind of people can win the first race, since it's not very likely the holder of the yellow jersey will change the first week. (= about 70 points).

oh and i forgot to tell a top20 endrank doubles the amount of points a driver has received during the races.

btw rr: on that site they also show day to day top10 ranks for 2003 and 2004.
further relative info can be found in results of the round of Switserland + Dauphine Liberee.

Re: Tour de France 2005

I'm usually following it on the TV aswell. Quite 'funny' when there's a big field of people and the first man falls taking the others with him

What I find really exciting about it is when there's like 2-3 people far ahead of the others and when some people from the big group tries to catch up on them before goal

it's all about tactical gameplay. they usually count a minute per 10km to get back on people ahead. to avoid more people escaping from the big group, sprintteams usually let the first group 'swim' ahead, to catch them back the last 5km.

Which is also what makes the sport so exciting It's not just about 'cycling' as many might think.

Re: Tour de France 2005

every rider has been tested before the start of the race this year, all have come back negative.

Re: Tour de France 2005

http://live.cyclingnews.com/

live news there.

btw Hans:

12:54 CEST
There's another counter: Joost Posthuma (Rabobank), another young and very talented rider, is in pursuit.

13:00 CEST 15km/197.5km to go
But Posthuma can't make it, the bunch is too fast. Gilbert is also caught, only a few moments later. Peloton groupé.

attacking already!

Re: Tour de France 2005

hm

at the tourtoto of the newspaper i'm now ranked #1983 (out of +11.500).
at the tourtoto of the office i'm now ranked #31 (out of 157).

since i don't have pure sprintteams in both games, i think i'm doing rather well so far.

i'm about the only guy that gambled on Eisel, the guy that ended #4 yesterday. maybe i can win some prizes this summer.
