I know precisely nothing about football, but this says that on the first World Cup Final, 30th July 1930, Uruguay beat Argentina 4-2.

If it's about that team from the north-East that was mistakenly invited to play against some Italian team, I'm going to hit you.

I cant help but feel from reading that story that it was just a weird match against some italians (with all due credit to them for winning) and the tv company that have made a film about it are just saying it was the first 'world cup' so people watch their film...

"West Auckland had etched its name in the annals of soccer history as the winners of the first World Cup as surely as their name was etched on the cup. Under the tournament rule, the magnificent trophy was now theirs to keep."

I could buy a cup, write The World Cup on it and award it to myself. It wouldn't mean I had won the World Cup, would it?

There are loads of sites saying the moon landings were faked and that President Bush engineered the WTC attacks. Should we believe them too?
In this case, I will believe the governing body of the World Cup over the website of a club in Northern England who claim to have won it.

Sir Thomas Lipton was awarded a high honour, Knight of the Grand Order by the government of Italy
Did it make him a coward, a stylish coward tho.
