what i meant was, are there any nouns, eg: desk, chair (actual objects/words, not just basic words such as: no, hi, at, I etc.)
so, are there any words that have no plural?

Gayle28uk - don't see any more than one of 'those' around do you.
Something I'm surprised none of you have said is the word "God" - except for polytheist religions, monotheist would see this as the only word with no plural

We're talking linguistics not theology. 'Gods' is linguistically valid and any theological considerations are irrelevant.

Chair is a noun while everything is a singular indefinite pronoun, you can't pluralise it.

The: Definitive article, cannot be pluralised.
Mercury: Also slang for a newspaper, pluralised as mercuries.
Lithium: "Get your cheap lithiums here!" screams the battery advert...
I presume the thread starter actually meant nouns that can't be pluralised rather than general words, otherwise there are thousands.
[edit]Still 28 until February [/edit]

Where can I find medical related informations?
There are many different milks, coconut and cows being merely two of them.
Is this going to be my job for the day? Pluralising every noun in the English language?

You're right, how about uncountable nouns like semen?

Information: A collection of facts or data.
It all depends on which definition you want to use I agree your version is more likely to be used but my version is grammatically correct.

I don't think there are any simply because our feeling for language makes every pluralisation sound acceptable.
On the flip side there are a lot of plural only words such as trousers, spectacles and sheep.
Also related to this:
Quote:
Words without Objects
Henry Laycock
Queen's University at Kingston
Resolution of the problem of mass nouns depends on an expansion of our semantic/ontological taxonomy. Semantically, mass nouns are neither singular nor plural; they apply to neither just one object, nor to many objects, at a time. But their deepest kinship links them to the plural. A plural phrase — 'the cats in Kingston' — does not denote a single plural thing, but merely many distinct things. Just so, 'the water in the lake' does not denote a single aggregate — it is not ONE, but rather MUCH. The world is not the totality of singular objects, plural objects, and mass objects; for there are no plural or mass objects. It is the totality of single objects and (just) stuff.

No it's not, it's (as queball said) an uncountable noun. Semen is the term for the fluid (singular) containing the spermatazoa (plural) and other nasty gunky stuff.

I was refering to mercury the liquid metal Gayle - so technically I have a winner too

I assume he literally meant at and not with.
i.e we laugh at at how un-funny he is
we don't laugh with him when he tries to be funny.
Thats the general feeling i got from mm.

Yes, all the non-noun words, and the propper nouns.
All other nouns have plural, or is plural in some form.

surely every noun has a plural, just that not all of them have a good use? 'informations' being an example of this

They're mass nouns, their useage is just like "gold". A hate, more hate.

Name one that isn't a mass noun with the useage of "more".
