Did Nivarna actually ever release any vaguely memorable song other than Teen Spirit?
Manson checks.
Err, no. They didn't.
This, to me, does not imply a terribly good band.

So let me try and get this... you would congratulate Courtney if she had shot him, because by his suicide, he influenced others to do the same?
yes...

From what can be gathered from the "Cobain Diaries", he was just a regular guy, and seemed pretty nice. Agonising over telling people they're out of the band, that kind of thing.

If courtney had killed him (and by this i mean actually pulled the trigger) id have shaken her hand. If she had made his life such a total living hell that he had to commit suicide, id still shake her by the hand because it meant we didnt have to hear another dozen incredibly similar, depressingly shit , "I hate the world, now kill yourself" albums from Nirvana.
Nirvana was responsible for one good thing, and one good thing only. It gave Dave Grohl a public platform for his ****ing huge talents and meant he could form the Foo Fighters, who are a million times the band Nirvana ever were.

do you actually understand any of the songs by Nirvana?
Having read a biography of Cobain, the meaning of the songs are amazing. "I hate the world, now kill yourself"? Not really. incredibly similar, depressingly shit? Not at all.
They are about his life, his experiences etc.
Foo Fighters are amazing tho

Re: For all those people who weren't even born when Kurt died*
Kurt CObain was the voice of a generation of pissed of troubled teenagers. he gave us all music we could relate to in some way and he has my utmost respect for everything he has done.
ive read a few books on kurt cobain and his life etc
"The Cobain Diarys" is a good insight into his life
"Heavier than Heaven" is a good read and gives good background to his life
"Who Shot Kurt Cobain" is a very good read and has made me concider the fact that courtney could have killed him. at the least it raises some very interesting questions
so basically if you want a good read about nirvana and kurt id recommend going to waterstones or whereever and picking up 1 of the above 3 books

i agree with you on dave grohl and the foo fighters - one of my most fave bands (even with only 3 albums, the 1st and the 2nd ruled and rocked the late '90's and the recent with their absolutely stunning 3rd record)
but i LOVE nirvana - and it kinda upsets me when you just blatantly hate them and their music

Erm , have I read a "Biography" or Cobain? No , because Cobain was a ****ing drugged up nutjob. Theres probably a few authorised and unauthorised "Autobiographies" out there which are inevitably fantasy or rehashing of existing stories to perpetuate the legacy of him being a "Misunderstood musical genius" instead of a suicidal drug addict. I place little to no faith in anything ever written about Cobain because he didnt write it himself, and TBH , he was never in a compos mentis state long enough to have written anything other than music and some "Hate the world, kill yourself" lyrics.

Nivana were definitely influential, but they're most popular in the demographic that can't actually say where they influenced music.

I think if Kurt Cobain hadn't killed himself, they wouldn't be the revered band they are now. It made it more sensationalist.
Similar story to The Doors, really.
