Which Car?
i'm in the market for my car, so since i have little experiance in these matters, it is up to you, the people of GD, to decide what would make the perfect first car for me. The choices are:
- A Ford Fiesta - other than my instructors car (a new Fiesta as it happens) this is the only other car i have driven, since my sister owns one. i quite like the fiesta as it is relativly cheap to buy and insure and rather nice to drive. I must admit, i'm swaying towards the fiesta atm
- A Rover Metro - I'm quite a large guy and so only just fit in one these, however they're cheap and i like the look of them
- A Fiat Uno - I've never even sat inside one of these before but i really like the look of them, plus they are within my price range
So people of GD, YOU DECIDE*!!!!
*You don't really, but i'll let you think you do

Oh dear lord no.
If you decide to get one of these, make sure the dealer throws in a tartan wool blanket, a box of tissues, a pair of backless driving gloves and a hat, preferably flat, to ensure you fit in with the rest of the uneducated, old idiots who believe a Metro is;
a) Nice looking
b) Not a death trap with an appalling safety record similar to that of the guillotine (come to think of it, when you consider the average driver, this may not be such a bad thing)
c) A touch of class from BL's golden days. Remember, BL didn't HAVE any golden days. It built the Marina, the Ambassador, the TR7 and the Morris 100, amongst other monstrosities...

Re: Which Car?
The Rover Metro and Fiat Uno are two of the ugliest cars ever created. They're right up there with the Lada and 2CV.
Seriously, Fiesta is the only option out of those 3. Have you thought about more 'normal' cars? Like the Polo/Golf or 106/206?

Re: Which Car?
i suggest looking at other cars, although you should be ok with a fiesta, but what is your price range?
not the metro, if you are large you wont be able to get anyone in the back behind the driver, and if you have more than 2 people in, your suspension is none existant

Re: Which Car?
Just because you havnt driven a car its no reason to not go for it, i had never driven my escort before i baught that, or my astra before i baught that, or even my 206 before i baught that.
Go on the car u like the look of, is in ur proce range to run aswell as to buy, and that u know is gonna be reliable, a few extra hundred quid to get a newer car rather than an older one is ALLWAYS worth it.
Thats my 2 cents

Re: Which Car?
<3 my Metty (L reg as it happens)
Tho yes, it does crumple like a tin can
Yes, there is no room in the back with full size passenger/driver in the front
And yes, the suspension detests any kind of speed bump (take them at an angle)
But it's a metro!

Re: Which Car?
Fiats should be avoided at all costs.
Metro...*shudder*
Fiestas are a great 1st car. They tend to run fine, have reasonable space, are (somwhat) cheap(er) to insure etc.
Though you should look at a few other makes too.
What's your price range?

Re: Which Car?
tbh what id do is pick up parkers price guide and look at what they say about each car for the year yuor looking at them.
Tbh the fiesta really is the only decent option out of those 3 but youve probably missed a shit load of others too.

Re: Which Car?
i'd like a polo, but they are few and far between around here. feel free to recommend some other cars, my price range is <£1000, but no french cars
edit: i've just found a 1992 1.05L Polo CL on Auto Trader near me, within my price range and the cheapest insurance quote i've had yet, i think i may have just found my perfect first car

Re: Which Car?
Tbh the polo is the best thing to do.
1995 Volkswagen Polo 1.0L, 66000
miles, superb original car, interior pristine condition, MOTd Feb. 05, 2 owners, service history, must be seen to be appreciated. £895 . /.
Manse AutosTel: 028 90833682 or 07776 084658
Distance: 368 miles
Price: £895
http://pictures.autotrader.co.uk/ATD...a?id=114049043
For example....
infact thats a steal for something like that. Plus its a VW and built by germans. If things go wrong its never 'omg the engine just exploded and my feet are on fire' wrong.
my VW Polo <3 <3

Get a japanese car if you want reliability, like a toyota corolla or something
i usually drive a 106 from my mom and that one truely rocks, but then again i am sentimental

Re: Which Car?
Good choice, the older VWs are built like tanks - they take a lot of wearing out.
The new ones may be too, but obviously we don't know yet cos they're not old
