Male seamen are called sailors right? So what are female seapeople called?

Its been a puzzler for me for a little while :/

Sailor is a generic term for anyone who serves or works on a boat or ship.

Seaman is either a synonym for sailor or a rating in the US Navy.

Either can be used for men and women.
