Live_wire is an unknown quantity at this point
Does initiative do anything/combat errors

The defending fleet looks like this:

Cutlass 500000
Corsair 150000
Thief 25000
Buccaneer 50000
Pirate 50000
Rogue 10000
Marauder 10000
Ironclad 1500

My attacking fleet looks like this:

Phantom 2022088
Illusion 59908

Thiefs have an initiative of 6 and Buccaneers have an initiative of 20. Those are the only ships he has that target fighters. Furthermore, both are steal ships.

Phantoms have an initiative of 3.

Based on initiative, his buccaneers shouldn't have any opportunity to shoot as they will have been destroyed by the time it is their turn to fire.

His thiefs do enough damage to destroy/steal 487500 phantoms.

Now for the actual results.

Phantoms:

291367 killed
1519993 stolen

All my Illusions were destroyed.

Now there seems to be an error both in the way initiative works and in the type of damage done.

What is up with this?

Phantoms might have a very low initiative, but they do not target DE. You've mistaken them for Banshees. Also, both his Thiefs and Buccaneers target your FI, the Thiefs kill them, and the Buccaneers will steal up to the maximum available ships because they aren't targetted by anything you sent.

Indeed. With the current combat engine, ships that do not have a target do not fire - essentially, although Phantoms might fire first, if there are no Corvettes to fire on, then they do no damage to the enemy fleet. There is no "random fire" as in the past.
