Clearly this can't stand as a general rule as it depends on the degree of risk, and the nature of the threat to your life etc. Clearly taking a plane hostage does increase the risk to other passengers (people could be accidently injured, the plane is more likely to crash, zealous counter-terrorism squads could accidently kill people in a botched 'rescue' and so on) but in this case it seems like an acceptable risk.

Much like we cannot say unquestionably that killing is wrong, and instead we have the word murder for wrongful killing, perhaps the word hijacking lacks clarification and a real moral context surrounding it.
