Talking Weekend Beta

Crazy but could be fun idea!!

Why dont we do a Beta were every race gets Daggers(fighters)
And then everyone gets there 0wn race version of fighters (aka Harpys, spiders etc..)
But they all target each other with different weapon speed, armour and different prices of ships.
Its just a mad little idea like think it would create a nice bit of carnage
Sort of planetarion 0 before races got intelligent on ships

I mean clear the idea up a bit but i think it would be fun.

Re: Weekend Beta

would this not just be a strange speed game?

or was the beta tag in hopes of avoiding paying for it? :P

Re: Weekend Beta

why would anyone want to do this, there are no tactics and it is simply who has the most ships.

Re: Weekend Beta

Damn why is everyone so single minded?
It was a suggestion mkay
i thought it would have been a nice lil thing to do over a weekend and its not who has the most ships at all its which race would conquer all.

Re: Weekend Beta

Betas arent meant to be about winning, they are about finding problems and tweaking these problems until a good balance is found.

Unfortunatley more often than not people play to win rather than test certain features cos its fast and new, and then discover that some problems aren't found until the actual round which is the reasoning behind some of the betas being private to selected testers where there's no (less) kudos in winning.

Re: Weekend Beta

Incidentally. I am inclined to think that what noah02 suggests, sounds more like a speedgame than a beta, but it may be interesting to try this sort of thing, maybe where each race only gets one of their special ships towards the end of the techtree. It would require some work regarding the stats though, and the techtree would have to be amended.

Yeah i was going to go on to say that is one of the problems with betas but couldnt be arsed with the extra typing that involved .

If people played public betas as a proper testing proceudure they would be much more useful than they tend to be, which is more like a free preview than anything else.
