just come across this
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4059953.stm
on the bbc news website, i always though that i was pretty good at spelling, but just bombed really badly at that one (only 2 out of 10 fs)
so how good are you, i mean christ, i could have guessed and probably got more than 2 dammit

Re: are you any good at spelling?
4/10 fck you all!
agree with dante there was a news item about 4 years back along the lines of 'stupid american spellings intruding' etc etc they interviewed a linguist specialising in english and he basically said he doesn't understand the fuss, there is no such thing as an 'académie française' in english, the language is free to develop which is its strength, he was much more interested in the different words that were developed for the same thing as that added texture to a language, spelling may interest someone from a technist perspective but isn't that important to a language.

Yeah, how in God's name should German people know how to spell the word "Kindergarten"...?

Re: are you any good at spelling?
10/10, but mainly because most of them are stereotypical "people always spell these words wrongly" words that I've seen in similar contexts before. Knowing Latin also helps quite a lot (millennium < mille + annus, minus = smaller, etc.).

4/10. Surprising... I've never been able to spell, I cant grasp the basic rules. I was in special needs for dyslexia until I was 10, God knows why...

ofc i know how its spelled in german, but that doesnt mean you spell it the same way in english. with words as similar as 'garden' and 'Garten' i thought its possible you changed it a little.

I have to be honest now; but I got 2/10 first time. Tried it again and got 4/10. 3rd time 9 of ten. Not bad \0/

7. English spelling actually makes sense roughly 75% of the time. Unfortunately the rules are rather complex.
