Beta: Manual question
I saw this in the Beta Forums:

My question has gone unanswered for several days, leading me to believe that the entry is in fact not in the manual as spinner believed. It would seem prudent to:

1) Add a reasonable explanation to the manual about why something that seems silly occurs

2) Remove the "feature" from the game.

I was looking for that as well as it made absolutely no sense at all, if you lose your fleet in battle why do you have to wait 10 ticks to get a free slot again, stupid imo...

It was introduced originally to make farming more difficult (back when it was still legal I think...), with some "command-ship needing to return" as the reasoning.

Any commander who loses his whole fleet need not return with any great haste. At the least he's out of a job.

It makes sense actually in a way that a new commander has to be trained to control the fleet; but that would be ETA independent..

Naw, it would be cooler is it was some silly BS science geek stuff.

/egghead voice "You see, the warp gates must be preconfigured to retrieve ships before launch, otherwise any survivors would not be able to come home.... unfortunately, if there are no ships left, the return jump retrieveal cannot be shut off without destroying our entire planet. Sorry Commander, but you just have to accept the fact that a round trip must always be programmed to occur when sending ships into combat.
