So me and the gf are out shopping and we go into EB...
EB being Electronics Boutique of course.
Anyway there are the usual display consoles out with various titles, but what's this attached to the gamecube... surely not a set of bongo drums.
Further investigation reveals an available to play Donkey Konga demo, at this point I'm swiftly brushed aside by more over enthusiastic girlfriend as she starts slamming the drums in a vain attempt to start the game.
Anyway after some patience we get through the menu's, a lot of the options are locked out being a demo with only the beginner and just better than beginner levels open to play, inside them the library of songs are mainly greyed out except a few, but titles are familiar ranging from beatles hits to other classics of the 20th century. Erin however (yes I've started to call her something else than girlfriend and for that I shall be spared tonight) selects the great Blink 182 hit "All the small things".
Game proceeds and after a bit of tutoring the unobservent Erin she strings some combo's etc etc much like how DDR works. You have two bongo drums which you hit accordingly or at the same time, also located on the bongo drums is a microphone for you have to clap instead of hit the drums at some points, so yes she got to look totally foolish clapping and slapping a plastic/rubber bongo resembling monstrousity.
Apparrently a lot of the arcades around here are making space for said game and it's been getting a heavy push in the cinema advertising as well, I don't know if it's overseas in the UK or mainland Europe yet but somehow the student hobby of sitting around hitting bongo drums while stoned has just been monopolised and incorporated.
Tbh, if you aren't the easily embarrassed type it sounds fun and the musical library (though for the life of me my memory is like a sieve) seemed of good calibre and we all wanted something to do with bongo's I'm sure as you can't really sit there and go well I'm going to play the saints go marching in...
Anyways bored and thought I'd re-iterate it for your pleasure.

This game would be much more fun if it had two bongs.

Re: So me and the gf are out shopping and we go into EB...
Actually, considering I have the joint GAME/Electronic Boutiques Employee Handbook I'll give a few details as I was told through training.
EB bought GAME, since GAME held a powerful market share in the UK. It still does, it has most of the market share within the UK and is aggressively expanding (40 stores opened within the last year I believe).
Every EB within the UK was transformed into a GAME Store last year, as part of the rebranding. EB felt that the GAME brand was stronger in the UK than itself, and so adoped that.
Recently, GAME forked out alot of money (well into the millions afaik) to break from EB and have its autonomy again - since it was paying a percentage of its profits to EB. GAME paid to end the contract sooner.
As a little side note, many people believe Gamestation is the next big game retailer, but it isn't GAME's main competitor - it may seem like it to staff members and customers, but in reality, figures don't give Gamestation much of the market at all.
As for Donkey Konga, my store was offered a demo pod for it but our Store Manager said the game was crap and refused to have one - meaning we'll get fk all amounts of it most likely and will probably flop. Which is a pity. Found out today when I had a look through our retail magazine and saw Nintendo offering the Demo Pods. I was like "OMG we have to get one!", and then got told "We were offered one, but <store manager> said no."
Sucky.
We get Pikimin 2 this Friday at least.

Re: So me and the gf are out shopping and we go into EB...
I've had donkey konga and another set of bongo's pre ordered for months.
The multiplayer potential for this game is quite frankly hilariously good.
already we plan bongo related drinking games.....
the only thing that's had me mildly worried is some of the songs, but apparently nintendo are going to target specific area's, so uk version will likely have lots of Queen, and sadly, lots of STEPS on it.

We have been discussing (over lunch today) the possibility of my mate buying this for gaming/drinking nights at his place. As JBOY has stated, the comedy potential is absoloutely immense.

Erin would like to point out that it hurts your hands after a while.
I'd like to point out that men don't have girly wrists and you can't feel pain when you have some quality alcohol pumping round the system.
