Planetarion Desktop Alerts
I think it would be very handy to have desktop alerts for planetarion. Alerts for all news items and new PA mail. Also to be able to set your own alarm on the application this way you can get up to res/con or launch. This shouldn't give an advantage over any other user as they could simply use an alarm clock or check their web browser. And I wouldn't think this would be able to be exploited if all you can do through the application is get news from your account or set an alarm. I think it would come in very handy.

Re: Planetarion Desktop Alerts
in order to do this a bot like program would have to be able to login and that would alow room for another bot war

Re: Planetarion Desktop Alerts
Yes but if the way the bot logged into the planetarion was proprietary and the source of both the application, the game, and the interaction between both are guarded as carefully as the source is now I wouldn't think there would be an issue.
Besides if anyone really wanted to make a bot to bypass security they would. Some sort of bot with basic OCR that refreshes pa constantly this would limit the amount of logins needed. You are just stating what is already possible
*edit*
If there was a seperate login for the application in which the only thing that was accessable was the news. Then the way it access PA couldn't be used to anyone advantage. (When logining there is an option for a bot login and this would only let you access the news and would not let you launch or do res/com).

now this would make it a bit better
but i think pa has a rule against this still and even if it was accepted it would not be on the code no list, you would need someone else to code it and give it to pa so they could approve there code

Re: Planetarion Desktop Alerts
Why can't PA code the program? Yes they have a rule against bots but they made the rule. They would make a rule about 3rd party programs or they could not even code the bot just create special bot access and let anyone with the know how code a program to access the information in the login. They make the rules they can amend them. I am not saying this is going to happen tomorrow but if they test it and work with it then they can amend the rules around it.

Re: Planetarion Desktop Alerts
I had a suggestion earlier in the round.
Text alerts for when PA is restored after crashing. Would be a nice little earner.
