Should Blair stay or should he go?
You decide.
In my case, clearly, yes.
If he stays on, then he can resign after we get assuredly thrashed in the next election. If he resigns now, then we can have a fair chance of winning the next election.
So I vote for him to sod-off pronto.

And no, he shouldn't go. He should just stop talking to that maniac across the Pond

He won't resign, and does the party have the balls to start a leadership contest?

There won't be a leadership contest if he resigns, (not in any real sense.) because, simply, there are no other figures of Parliamentary standing who have the political weight of Brown. You have to understand that Blair and Brown have totally domineered the entire party from the top down for the last ten years, and there is really no-one else comparable to them in political terms. This is why Brown does not want to stick the knife in; because he knows that if he does, then Tony's chums within the party will be instructed to vote against whoever stands against Brown, and the right-wing vote within the part will probably be split.
People like Prescott et al are deluding themselves if they tihnk they've got a cat in hell's chance.
The only other person I'd really be looking out for in any leadership contest was Robin Cook, although Brown might try and buy him off beforehand.

He has heart problems, so he is probably secretly fatter than Gordon, and MI5 are covering it up.

I think he probably should go but I would rather he didn't so that there is more chance of Labour losing the next election.

Yes. He is the most pro-EU PM we have ever had. Gordon Brown is much more sceptical.

Tbh, we got rid of Thatcher and we got JOHN MAJOR!
Something tells me history might repeat itself.
(being that we'll get someone inevitably worse and we'll regret getting rid of the original in the first place, quote song line from yellow taxi somewhere.)

Keeping Thatcher would probably have been worse, and Brown isn't exactly Mr Excitement Major.

There is a person in existence who regrets the fact that Margaret Thatcher had to resign?
This, I refuse to believe.
Major wasn't worse than Thatcher in terms of the content of his policies - absolutely not. He was just a lot more ineffectual than Thatcher as a PM, and presided over essentially the near-collapse of the Tory party. (Again though, who's bitching?)

Re: Should Blair stay or should he go?
Part of the problem in the Major years is that there was literally noone left in the party who wasn't utterly ineffectual, had some hideous personal secret or was just terrible at being a minister. Or more usually all three (hi cecil!)

The main problems, though, were based around simple events, like Black Wednesday, combined with Major's laclustre handling of both the party and the Government in the face of them. It had some fairly able people, like Ken Clarke. (although granted, these were in the minority.)
Ironically, If anything, The Tory Party by about 1993 needed someone who was prepared to put it through the works, much like Thatcher often did. Major's consensual, folsky approach was completely the opposite of that, and had pretty disastorous results.
