Apparently we have to send a letter promising we've formatted all our hard drives or something.

What does this tell you?
Don't use public trackers, or get a different provider.

We have buged out and nukes our hard drives from orbit. Are you going to sue us infringing on the Alien copyright now?
Bastards, so how did they find out. I was under the impression BitTorrent was somewhat harder to monitor than Kazaa.

Didn't you read? Colombia wants to avoid that for the greater good.
Besides, it'd be enormously costly to prosecute individual cases.

Re: File Sharing (again)
Also, for the love of god change your default bittorrent ports out of the 6xxx range.
ISPs are not stupid, they know the defaults. Choose a random range up in the high end like 47454-47554 or something

BUT, it won't help: The ISP can do paket sniffing and filtering as they want -- even if you block connections to CIA, FBI, etc, they can still for BitTorrent-typical headers.
Dunno what about VPN, IPsec stuff etc., but you would need another "un-watched" server somewhere.
FFS the next Kazaa- and BitTorrent-like P2P stuff program should implement encryption and obfuscation as default (like this winamp-maker's thingy).

Also I think, the more popular it gets, the more they could have a look on that DCC traffic as well

funny that it's happened to dante ('s household) twice and never to anyone else
It makes me wonder if all isps are getting these messages and ignoring them while Dante's is being more strict. These fixed ip addresses you pay extra for could have something to do with it too?

Re: File Sharing (again)
It happens a fair bit as theres a number of companies employed by the movie studios and record companies whos job is to find out who downloading and sharing copyrighted files. Getting caught is a combination of a) Being a bit naive and not ensuring your ipfilters are upto date and thus blocking the tracking service and b) being extramly unlucky.
Obviously a you can take some action against and keep those filters upto date which decreases the chance but you cant account for luck and no matter how many ip's are filtered if you try and download a file thats being monitored (or serve a file being monitored) and your protection isnt perfect (and no-ones is, theres always scanners out there that havent been identified yet and arent blocked) you have a chance of getting caught, tracked and automatically reported

My mate works for an ISP and he says they get these things all the time but he says they dont have the time or spare members to deal with them so just let them go, plus half of them are due to those in the office anyway! You should use them Dante!

Newsgroups are generally full of shit and it takes a ****ing age to find what you're looking for on them. Unless you have secret newsgroup browsing skills, then please share.

I think it may be something to do with us being a business account, rather than a personal account.
To get reconnected, we have to send a company header letter promising that action has been taking about the 'employee' who abused the access.

I bought a program called Newsshark that helps . It handles yenc encoding and instead of having to download files part by part, it shows the full file.
However, on the whole news groups are full of shit and that's usually just the posters.

Re: File Sharing (again)
There is only one way we can solve this problem...
1. Take over a small, insignificant third world country, say, france.
2. Set up a decent internet system
3. Make a law declaring filesharing legal.
Id call it "Outer Heaven" - sounds catchy.
