The Day After Tomorrow
It was slightly superb. my mums now paranoid as there was a tornado in turkey today. I pointed out that there was a Hurricane at an airshow down south a couple of days ago. She got even more scared. Apparently only my father and me 'got that'.
Anyway. That yellow tent.
Someone find me a price for that. Any tent that protects you from an ice age has got to be worth purchasing.

Re: The Day After Tomorrow
I quite liked it.
Special effects were good.
British accents were exaggerated but funny (helicopter pilot).
Royal family died.

Re: The Day After Tomorrow
Good movie, funny, entertaining visuals only two problems with it.
The tropospheric storm shit was totally fake, ingeniously thought out, totally won't ever happen however.
Also, Don't do wolves.
Just don't.
Kids do not take drugs from wolves.
Directors don't set up half your movie around 3 ****ing wolves.
That'll be all.

Yeh , the wolves conveniently escaping from the Zoo just in time to terrorise our hero, when they clearly could have found some half dead snow covered citizens wandering around the city, and picked them off instead.
Fun Film. Good to watch. Few memorable moments. Wish they showed us what happened to Brian Cox though

Re: The Day After Tomorrow
The film wasn't bad per se, but that was absolutley no point to it. The "epic struggle" of the guy to go meet his son was essentially meaningless.
The dialogue was all poor, but I expect nothing less in a move of this type.

A truly mediocre film, as you'd expect from the man behind Independence Day.

Re: The Day After Tomorrow
I didn't think it was very good at all actually...the only guy I liked was the bloke who played Donnie Darko. The rest of it was cheesy and predictable.

people are being chased down a corridor by climate change. to save themselves, they shut a door.
the problem is, the door didn't have draught excluders

Considering the scientific probability of a 'storm' like that ever happening, I'm willing to overlook draught excluders.
Personally I just loved the dick chaney pisstaking.

I'm no great expert on ice ages, but i reckon it would take a pretty chilly storm. What was so scienficially stupid about what happened in the film?

It implied that they died, since you assume the eye of the storm that caught the helicopters would catch them too... but maybe they stayed warm and burned the corgis or something. WHO KNOWS!
Also, Independence Day was a "American President saves the world, God bless America!" film with good special effects. I found this one a bit less nauseating in that respect. Maybe the fact that Independence Day was made while Clinton was president and that TDAT was made during the Bush administration (with the vice president looking disturbingly like Dick Cheney) has something to do with this. Maybe the producer/director/writer/whoever is a democrat!
Or maybe i'm just reading too much into it...

I thought ice ages were caused by a slight 'wobble' in the earth's orbit of the sun?

Thats one possibility. It could also be due to extreme amounts of dust/ash/whatever in the air from an asteroid impact or mass volcanic activity. I dont know if disruption of the north atlantic drift has ever been proposed to have occured in the past but it is a fairly well backed idea of how an ice age could occur in the future. God knows if there are any simulation style things to predict what would happen if the melting of the ice caps did cause it but i dont see why Sunday seems to think a big storm is such a stupid suggestion.

Re: The Day After Tomorrow
I think the disruption of the North Atlantic drift could only create a localised Ice Age rather than the huge global event shown in the film. A rise in worldwide temperatures is much more likely.
I thought the film was pretty good, but that was mainly the effects. A lot like Independence Day really.

Re: The Day After Tomorrow
The flying wolves bit did suck quite a bit...
and i quite doubt that a -65C weather would freeze shit all around like that. What is the freezing point for gasoline? Like -90?
People just have way too much water to freeze instantly....

Re: The Day After Tomorrow
I've just finished a book called "The Sixth Winter".
Was written like 20+ years ago.
Sounds awfully like this film (in the book they had these "snow hurricanes" which got really cold which cold freeze people instantly etc ... they were called "Dancers").
Book started off interesting.
Book ended up fag.

The thing I found "unrealistic" (well, against common sense maybe, I don't really know much about this sort of thing) was the localised super-cold storms.
The overall change in climate seemed believable, but the bit with like a "death cloud" of cold air (which, as already mentioned, could be stopped by a wooden door) seemed a bit far fetched.
