Look,basically there seems to be more confusion over this than anything.
This is a procedure looking for a causing factor. All the reasons (apart from religious) for circumcising boys are to POSSIBLY help prevent some sort of rare complication of having a foreskin at some time in the future.
If thats the case why not remove the heart at birth to prevent the possiblity of heart disease,or the liver because it may develop cancer...or the left index finger as it may become inflamed.
Its all bollocks and I feel even in the case of religious reasons its spurious. There is all this hullaballoo about female gential mutilation nowadays and there is a drive against it. Well its performed for religious reasons,why is it condemed by the UN as a human rights violation?
Why is it ok to mutilate male genitalia and not female genitalia for religious reasons?

AFAIK (meaning no this hasn't happened to me), the medical reasons are if the foreskin is too tight / won't retract / fused to the head, stuff like that. I believe a google for "phimosis" will give you all the gory details.
