Galaxy Militia & Structures - Shared Property

Hi everyone,

I am newly returned to the game after many rounds so please forgive me if something like this has been suggested many times before. It is just something I thought of on the way to work this morning and I thought I would share it with you.

My idea is that (after shuffle) in each galaxy slot #1 (eg.1:1:1) would be a galaxy-owned slot, which represents not a planet, but merely a grouping of structures owned by the galaxy. These could be satellites, weapons platforms, wave amplifiers/distorters etc.

This grouping of structures can be attacked directly by Structure targeting ships and so needs to be defended. For this reason each player in the galaxy can donate ships up to 5% of their total value towards the defence of these structures. These ships permanently become the property of the Galaxy Militia and can not be used for attacks, only defence. I'm not sure yet whether or not they should be allowed to leave their base in order to defend planets in the galaxy but probably better not to. This would be a multi racial defence force that would be difficult to attack without a good group effort..

The Militia's strength for repelling waves & covert ops would be based on the total strength of all planets in the galaxy divided by the number of planets in the galaxy plus any bonuses offered by the militia.

The GC of each galaxy will be allowed to spend galaxy funds towards constructing items which will benefit the galaxy or alternatively players can vote towards what gets built next by donating directly toward individual projects on a list. Whichever project raises the full cost first gets constructed first. Galaxies which cooperate will be able to build these structures much faster.

Constructions
The following are constructions that can benefit every planet in the galaxy at the same time. There should be limits on how many of each type of construction can be built.

Weapons Platforms.

These are stationary satellites which can defend every planet in the galaxy at the same time. But multiple battles in the same ticks splits their effectiveness. One fleet attacking the galaxy in the current tick receives 100% effectiveness of the weapons platforms. Two fleets attacking receive 50% effect each. These structures can not be targeted when attacking a planet. They can only be targeted by attacking slot x:x:1 in the galaxy.
There is also a limit to how many of these weapons can be constructed (perhaps based on the galaxy's average value).
This would give smaller players some protection but still allow other small players to get through.

Communications Satellites.
These are essentially wave amplifiers that act as +1 each for every planet in the galaxy at the same time.

Jamming Satellites.
Like Communications Satellites except they work to distort incoming waves.

Research.

Galactic Intelligence Service.
Can raise stealth and alertness of all planets by 10 points in six stages. Stages 1-4 are 2 points each and stages 5-6 are one point each. Each stage costs the same.

Militia vs Militia scans
Viewable by all planets in a galaxy. Can not be used against planets.

I see this as a much better use of galaxy funds than throwing them away on ignorant new players who wouldn't know how best to use them (though that would still remain an option).
This would also help players who have joined up mid round with a head start to catch up to people who have been around longer and make them feel a little less vulnerable and a little more wanted.
It would also slow down people who have farm planets as now there can be risk involved in attacking your farm for roids.

The galaxy militia and its defence will be a rallying point for the galaxy as it serves everyones interests.
I think this would add a new dimension to the game that could spark some renewed interest for veterans of the game and new players alike.

will do , but havent read the whole thing yet, but from experience anythin set beore won t work. second , in early time , you need all your fleet , since you need get a nice size early to get a small advantage. o a safe slot won t work until you are big enough to have a ull fleet and some left over on side .

and galaxie defence happen quite ofen since if you attack alot you get 3-5 tic to launch fleet . allaince you wll have a tick only . so unless a massive raid . the odd are you will ave a gal member onlne whitin the time you need defence in gal)

look good but , most player (new ) cannot get theyr hand on a good galaxie .
and eevry galaxie get trashed now and then

I was just reading the Emp Critical Failure thread and that raises another plus. People attack Cat because they know they have nothing to lose. Shared weapons platforms would add a small element of risk.

mos time theyr is a good earth zikonan thatcan send a few ship . wich kinda made the zikonian more important . such united thing is maybe or a game where the eta would be lower . way i see it if you toy around your pc .
you need to avoid fleet catch.

tip.: get a zikonian to steal part of cath fleet and counter at eta 3 . will be to late to recall if he coming bak eta 1 for scan and after the eta 4 jpg.

Pds was nice but prety useless making some player getting a bunch of roid in beging and making huge pds. forcing allaicnce to trash huge fleet on enemie planet. and didnt help lonely player avoiding anilation.

This has been suggested before, (as you guessed) and I do think it could add another element to the game, but at the same time it is another thing to abuse.

All in all, however, I do like it, and I would like to see how something like this would work out

Generally the problem with galaxy fleets, galaxy pooled scans, amps constructions etc, is that it tends to benefit top galaxies alot more than small galaxies. Why? if there is a galaxy fleet, then anyone who wants to attack that galaxy must overcome it or somehow dodge it, thus there is less chance of success in a raid, and essentially means that you cant solo/retal those galaxies without being opposed by the galaxy fleet, which is going to be large. Small galaxies will, if they're active enough to use them, have smaller fleets that are composed not as well and etc, thus being relatively more easily destroyed or overcome or avoided. Thus, its not as much of an advantage for small galaxies as large ones, as large galaxy's fleets help them become unassailable fortresses.

Similar situation to construction; top galaxies would generally go for 60+finance centres to help everyone earn even more money (they tend to have the most roids already, thus %age increases help them proportionally more), or 148+ jammers, making them impossible to scan and thus less likely to be attacked and defended against. Smaller galaxies wont have the same resources or time to organise those construction as fast (if ever) in comparison, making it less useful for them.

Whilst this equity issue is a concern, if its not hte point of introducing this to PA, then that's ok. I just see it as being able to quickly get out of hand and only solidify people's ranks (good and bad). I'm not sure that is a positive for the game.

for fun , but is not the zik power to organize fleet catch?


and ffs , i did 25 scan alone whit a56k connection , bc hc shouldnt have 10 hours time away and a 8 hour tha is pure and simple . not that hard to spend 3-4 month home .

I think you guys are reading more in to this than what I originally posted... or maybe I didn't explain it well enough.

Unlike normal planets the x:x:1 will not be able to grow as big as it wants. It will be restricted.

Here are some examples of limitations on x:x:1

Only 3 galaxy wave distorters can be created total.
This will help a new planet more than a progressed planet but both will still gain benefit.
Here is a situation. There are 6 Xan in the galaxy and a pair of buddies, a Zik and cat, who want to go raiding together. Lets say a galaxy wave distorter costs 6 times as much of a normal distorter, it would cost about the same if only 6 planets contribute funds toward it. if they convince the Zik and the Cat to also contribute they then share the cost 8 ways and it comes slightly cheaper and benefits all 14 planets in the galaxy including any new planets as they show up. So now they build 2 more of these galaxy wave distorters and can build no more.

Galaxy Fleet is responsible for defending x:x:1 it can not be sent away.
It's strength is that it can have ships of all races. It's weakness is that it must stand and fight. It can not evade attacks. Also it will be limited in numbers. The total value of the fleet might be a maximum of perhaps 20% of the average value of the galaxy. Planets would have to send help if it is attacked. There could be a research that could increase the max value to 30% and 40%. Ticks for research would be 100 ticks and 150 ticks.

Weapons platforms. stage 1 (72 ticks)

You can only build 1 of each type of weapons platform. Each platform has 500 guns and does 8-25 damage depending on what they target.

There are six types

# T1 T2 Construction Time
1 Fi Co 15 ticks
2 Fr De 15 ticks
3 Cr Bs 15 ticks
4 Co Fr 15 ticks
5 De Cr 15 ticks
6 Bs Fi 15 ticks

Each of these will be the equivalent of about 500 ships. Not much to scare big planets attacking other big planets. It does and a little risk to attacking any cat though where before there was none if you avoid normal ships. Smaller players can benefits from this though if they started playing late in the round.

whit the populationa dn race we can get pretty quick in some point , so i guess that we better maybe dont touch production time , already that whe they allow us to chage the oucomming of ship it was pretty nice (4-12 tick) whit population.

presonaly i would go whit the allaince kiling and a few minor ship change , cath eta 8( or am going zik or xan ) maybe making it so zik can be played alone , quick ship fast reasearch high construction time to .


what nice is to see if you can make the enemies pull once you get to a decent level . cathar had for effect to atrace galaxy defence but whit world wide gaming ... look like pds , wich was pretty bad since cannot pull them , and you bound to get hit .

the 10% income extra for the gc whit 2 minister and 5% each was nice to
