Re: US tells UN to **** off. World not surprised.
I love the way the invesitgators demanded to visit Guantanamo with unrestricted access. The US denined them this saying they could visit but under supervision and no direct personal access to prisoners, forcing the UN members to refuse on principle. Then say "look! look! they didn't even VISIT!"
At this stage the US can do whatever it likes with these men, and just about anyone else without much fear of problems.
I mean if a UN investigation, legal challanges, demands from multiple countries, the EU and human rights organisations result in nothing but "Umm.....no" from the Bush Administration, then what would work?!
They are the only superpower and are acting like it. I'm sure they will continue for a very long time.
I'm getting tired of watching the news, all it does is make me depressed and despair at humanity.

I'm confused. Surely you're not being sarcastic? These are actions taken for the good of the majority. Sure some of those people probably have done nothing wrong but we can all sleep a bit safer at night knowing some very dangerous men are locked away, unable to harm us.

Absoloutely unca jonny. Those nasty men and women want to hurt us all, or at least if they didnt beforehand, 4 years of torture and inhumane treatment in a military camp on the other side of the world means they probably do now, so its best they stay there.

One must occasionally make small sacrifices for the greater good my friend. I'm surprised at you really, you have most adequately displayed a grasp of this key fact elsewhere.

Political Prisoners/Enemy combatants do not get trials, they rot until the high tide rolls out. Hasnt history taught anyone anything?

The UN is the ideal of ethical, multilateral, humane, corruption free governing. Best institution ever!

Re: US tells UN to **** off. World not surprised.
Some of the accounts that have come out of Guantanamo are appalling.
Apparently some of them have been forced to get on their knees and plead for mercy from their guards and interrogators.
I heard they even made Moazzam Begg.
(Sorry.)
