I know, it's very old and probably an urban legend but I was reminded of it this morning and it still brings a smile to my face

This is a transcript of an actual radio conversation between a US Naval ship and
Canadian authorites off the coast of Newfoundland in October 1995.

US SHIP: Please divert your course 0.5 degrees to the South to avoid a
collision.

CANADIAN REPLY: Recommend you divert YOUR course 15 degrees to the South to
avoid a collision.

US SHIP: This is the Captain of the US Navy Ship. I say again, divert YOUR
course.

CANADIAN REPLY: No, I say again, divert YOUR course!

US SHIP: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS MISSOURI. WE ARE A LARGE WARSHIP OF
THE US NAVY. DIVERT YOUR COURSE NOW!!!!

CANADIAN REPLY: This is a lighthouse. Your call.

I vaguely knew about their past existance but couldn't have told you what round they were in.

In fact, they were about as ball suck as any ship in any round. Except the round 1 cruiser.

I just wanted to add that Canada doesn't need warships, because they are smart, peaceful and internationalized - meaning that the rest of the world doesn't hate them because of their ignorance and general dumb thinking (And I am not only talking about the general population here...) opposed to their more noisy neighboors..

Check out your history matey. We Candians have kicked Americam butt so many times in the past it ain't funny. But then of course you don't learn history south of the border so you wouldn't know that. Once upon a time after we took over Michigan and got down to the capital, we like the good neighbors we are gave it back. Sux to be american don't it.

That was when the Republic was new and you were part of the most powerful nation in the world. I wouldn't want to talk about that stalemate if I were you...

That was but one example. Not done with crack military forces but with militia made up of farmers. There are many more. Lately however with the anti canadian sentiments eminating from south of our border I wonder why we ever let it go.
Its fairly obvious that Saudi's trained by amercians and largely financed by oil money have caused most of americas latest woes.(That and bad foreign policy) Why do they insist on saying we had anything to do with thier own short sightedness?
Cause they can't own up to thier own mistakes........pity.

And yeah we got CF18's and warships. And yes we don't spend a lot of money on military. But we do carry the load when it comes to peacekeeping.

WarFalcon's point was that you were part of the British Empire and back by that entity. To take a recent example its the difference betwen the North Alliance in Afganistan before and after the US backed them.

Canada doesn't need a military because the United States protects them and isn't an aggressive nation. Its called the Monroe Doctrine and its kept Europe out of the Western Hemisphere.

As far as the Anti-Canadian option coming from the US I think you are deluded. Most Americans don't care either way what canada does.

I hate to nitpick, but I will. There is no Aircraft Carrier Missouri. There is a battleship Missouri parked at Pearl Harbor as a museum ship (next to the Arizona). AC's are usually named after presidents, battles, or classic names (i.e. Enterprise, Constellation etc...). Boomers (missile subs are named after states) and attack subs are named after cities. Not that anyone cares, but just thought I would point that glaring anachronism out.

A long time ago on a different forum, TMG came up with the theory that Canadians can't think straight and can't see the truth because "their heads are packed with flannel". I am starting to see what he meant.
