NTL rock
heh NTL guy comes round to check my modem after my net went down for a week, im on the 150k(or is it 300k now) service, anywho he turned up the "volume" on my bband connection and now im getting 35k a sec downloads were as it was about 14k before, NTL rock!
the downside is i was kept about a hour on hold on the support line, but hey at this price who cares (£15 a month)

Re: NTL rock
They gave me a 2 month free trial on 1mb, which got upgraded to 1.5mb half way through, so that was cool. I;ve now gone down to the 300k option because i cant afford to pay for a 1.5mb connection, but its still a lot better than the 56k modem i was stuck on before .

Re: NTL rock
Yah, that's the thing, NTL's services are that the modem you have can give you already the top end service people get, they just throttle it cause you won't pay them more per month for it.
In total they are fleecing bastards considering for 12 quid a month over here I get 270-300 kb/s

Re: NTL rock
They are still one the fastest per pound service widely available in the UK. The 300k option is actually £17.99 and has been ever since it was upgraded from 128 to 150.
Although it is true that they throttle your connection, this seems fair enough, on the basis of pay more and get more. Also I doubt they could handle upgrading everybody's connection to 1.5 meg. Although the modems could handle it, I am not sure that the NTL servers could without heavy upgrading.
Oh and you can't judge the 'fleecing' prices compared to a canadian company.

Re: NTL rock
They are bringing out a 2mb soon, so they'll have to be able to handle it.

Yes, but it won't be the whole country subscribing to that.

Re: NTL rock
Nor will you probably get it at a reasonable price, I'd expect you will probably pay through the nose for it, comparitively.
That said we have 5 mb over here, I just haven't upgraded.

That's not really a fair comparison since their costs will be completley different to ISPs in North America.

Re: NTL rock
this thread shocked me into a state of near unconsciousness. In all the time of which i have spent perusing teh intarweb, i have never heard any praised whatsoever of NTL.

Re: NTL rock
Cause I think unlike our dear thread poster we are blissfully aware ntl serves up polished shite.
To those who are unaware/sheltered I know some things look audacious, you know like showing Steven Seagal movies to an amazonian tribe etc?
