From what i saw it was Italian, can anyone here shine some light on the different outfit's the various religious chaps were wearing, i saw some odd headwear.

i found it slighly weird to be honest.

I was expecting a massive Coffin with gold statues and carved marble things etc - something extravagant etc - instead it was just a wooden box...

It was rather low key, not the sort of thing i'd have expected from a popes funeral..

i only watched it for a bit, Catholic services are boring in English. I don't think i could stand a Latin/Italian service.

I found it quite humorous the way the BBC had a football commentary setup with the main presenter and 3 "pundits" to comment on what they've witnessed; summarising it all etc.

Honestly guys..

I find it very disgusting just thinking about burials, wakes and anything that has to do with dead people.

I understand the impact of the Pope to the Catholics, but what I don't get is why would these people risk their lives and their health just to see the dead body of the Pope? Why? How is that fulfilling?

I think burials and wakes or any of these ceremonies are the most jurassic, ancient and so overrrated of all human traditions - it almost makes me sick to think that people claim our innovative society and the 21st century to be so technologically advanced and our ways of life are so much different now, but we still do such barbaric and useless evolutions like this.

As I am Catholic, I shouldn't be saying things like these about the Pope but I am ashamed for being the Catholic that I am, when all these years I've seen the Church do shady shit like covering up the Catholic priests child molestation charges, being very strict on Roman Catholicism traditions that it scares every innocent Catholic kid bound by the scare tactics of the Church, the Pope and the Church going to East Africa and preach about not using condoms/unprotected sex and procreation when 25% of the world's AIDS population resides there, stuff like that.

I am honestly very ashamed of being a Catholic. And that's why my faith is shot because of what I've seen and experienced. And so the Pope died, and I woke up the next morning, drank my coffee and did my business like nothing happened, and so on and so forth.

When people turn out en masse for someone's funeral I think they are honoring what that person stood for (or what they think that person stood for). I think they see it as a way of validating their beliefs.

Funerals are something of a paradox in that they are not really for or about the dead; they are for the living. When you realize this they become a lot easier to understand. Funerals are also one of the (rare) occasions when people tend to confront their own mortality. Perhaps that is a "barbaric and useless" thing to do, but I rather doubt it.

American Budweiser is 'good' only in the sense that it sells well, which is probably due more to price than taste. On the basis of taste, it rates fairly low in the American beer surveys I've seen.

Why do you call yourself a Catholic rather than a Protestant or non-denominational Christian? If you arent interested in the Pope and the Catholic Church, it seems strange to associate yourself with a strain of Christianity which is based around the Pope and the Catholic Church.

I'm the Catholic that will tell you how ****ed up Roman Catholicism is. I was raised in a strict Catholic household and I hated every second of it, now I purposely involve myself with the religion with a mission to criticize - somewhat..

But yes you are right, I shouldn't associate myself with an organization in which I hate - it's just proves you how Catholically brainwashed I am that even though I loathe the religion, I still claim myself to be one.
