As of today, I'm on the wagon
I thought I would make some kind of public declaration, and this is as good a place as any, so here I go.
Firstly, let me explain, I haven't been to sleep sober since I came to uni, with perhaps one exception, although I'm not even sure about that. Now, I'm not saying that this is neccessarily a bad thing, if you can do this and continue to lead a fulfilling life. The problem is, i start at around 4pm (after normally waking up around 2) and don't stop until I go to sleep. It varies between alcohol and marijuana, and the fact that I'm doing both has allowed me to fool myself to some extent and worry less. It has simply become too much though.
The fact is, that i get absolutely nothing done, ever. This is the problem more than anything else for me, forget about my brain, forget about my liver, forget about my lungs, I still feel young and invincible so that doesn't bother me that much.
Any way, for the next few days at least I am not going to put any drugs into my system whatsoever (excluding tobacco, and including alcohol). If I come on the internet drunk or stoned before friday I would appreciate it if someone would tell me I'm an idiot.
I really need to sort out my university course this week, and atm I'm just not going in. I'm hoping it will become easier if I don't wake up every morning feeling like absolute shit then escape inside my own head for the rest of the day.
I'm also well aware that I could just be blaming my own laziness on something else, but I think it's worth a try.
Oh, and I apologise for making such a serious thread. Here's a stupid smiley.

Re: As of today, I'm on the wagon
Well if you can't last until Friday then you're doomed.
Good luck anyway. From prior experience I wouldn't recommend going out / hanging around with people who are drinking, etc while you do this - but that's fairly obvious.

The best idea in these sorts of situations is to buy a hipflask and bring it into college with you and whenever it's all getting too much slip off to the toilet and have a little something to take the edge off the day.

Think of all the money you'll save!
Maybe enough for a train ticket down to London on, say, the 9th of December?

A good start, but on a more sober note, how will we be able to tell that you are sober?

well, the fact that I am on a very lax course has allowed me to get this far in the term without actually doing a scrap of work. Things are starting to pile up though, and I need to treat it as a job, just for a few days.

Re: As of today, I'm on the wagon
Being sober isn't easier, and when it gets tough you may asking yourself 'why the hell am I trying to be sober?', one drink, one smoke, one pill, it's not so bad. When that happens and depending on the choices you make you may throw away all the effort you've taken to get as far as you have, or, you can continue on and finally reach that plateau where you've finally adapted to a new, and sober, lifestyle and from there you'll have a better perspective of what your options are. I suggest you make it to that plateau, tough going, I know. I commend this effort.

I hate you
I hope the lager contains an alien parasite that devours you from within.

Look at it this way, if you indeed sober up, you will never be mistaken for JBG! That should provide some incentive, surely.

Like those yoghurt things with the 'friendly bacteria' in them ?
Evil Grey half human half alien hybrids they mean.
There is no reason to go on the wagon you know. All you need to do is learn moderation. I used to think that going out and getting rat arsed, getting a curry, maybe a fight and puking in a taxi was a good night out. Now I am more than happy with a few pints and sodding off home to cook some pasta.
It's a lot cheaper as well.

Guilt? Your motivation perhaps for this pro-active week yo have in mind?
A sudden realisation? A sudden rush to the head, an unexpected cold embrace of icy water....
Yes I know, I think there comes a time when every college studnet realises it too, yes there is *work* [in my current groggy state such a word hurts my sensitive ears, and hence needs to be whispered], I for one know that I have avoided it valiantly, the silent shadow that clings to me until I find the warm fuzzy place hat alcohol brings me to....
Now where did I leave that drink, did somebody say graded assignment? Lecture? Oh dear I appear to have misheard you,

Perhaps on the wagon was a bad term, as im planning to get ****ed this weekend (though I havent yet decided in exactly which way); but when I can't remember the last time I went to bed sober AND im walking a fine line at uni I think its probably time to do something about it.
Maybe it isn't, but like I said above, I think its worth a try.

Re: As of today, I'm on the wagon
Good luck. It's not that funny, but it can be rewarding sometimes.
I've done something similar lately myself, althought I've just cut down heavily. I only drink once or twice a month, tops (one for the food is still okay) and only then will I do harder stuff, and only hash/weed in the weekends. I still don't get things done

Actually all i had was 4 pints of cider at the pub. My housemates made sure i didnt have any more and not having access to more alcohol seriously depressed me I think.
It truly is the worst drug
