Anyone with half a brain won't be willing to 'burn their bridges' simply to gloat over which alliances they had spies in.

BTW, people define the term 'spy' differently. There's a big difference between a person purposely put somewhere for information gathering reasons and someone who just talks too much.

I'm really a Titans member.
I've been spying on Ely for the last 3 rounds, taking target information of friendly planets from military command channels and passing it on to members in an attempt to leak Ely attacks before they are sent. This is usually done in the form of a 'raid' or 'attack', whereby the 'target' is scanned by someone so people can take their own targets, further enforcing the illusion that this isn't an elaborate intelligence operation. From time to time my real alliances' targets are roided by my Ely puppets, but this is chalked down as 'acceptable losses'. I even attack and roid Titans planets myself to ensure I am not discovered.
Of course, I dont tell Titans about the intel I discover, as if there was ever found to evidence of a leak my whole operation would be ruined. So I tell them after landing that they will be attacked, so they have plenty of time to prepare for next time.
I am now a senior officer and they still don't suspect a thing!!!!111~@~@~!12. Clearly I must be the leetest spy ever.

Who needs spies ?
Personally I can't stand them.
However spies have become a very essential part of the game for alot of alliances wether they like to admit it or not.
There are ofcourse many types of spies.
"Hey everyone I just got into their jr wing!! weeeeeeeee ;D Now I can chat in their public channel and stuff"
Another type and one of the most common ones are the 'blabber mouth' that sits and talks in a unsecure channels with all sorts of people. Talking about their alliance and how cool it is, with perhaps 'enemies' earsdropping. Alot of information gets picked up like that.
I don't want to discredit the spies that actually work hard and have a goal and plan worked out. However it's often alot of coincidents and pure luck at times that leads them to a clue and at 'worst' times connects them directly to the source.
Sniffing on irc servers, forums etc.
- I don't want to write a 'How to' right now ;o)
There are ofcourse 'spies' on the top levels of alliances aswell.
I have never really understood how these people think or what on earth is the matter with them. Not sure if they really quilify as real spies, or if they are just seriously disturbed. They have afterall worked hard to help build up an alliance and make it good (or they should have anyway). Creating an Alliance and a comunity that you can be really proud of and actually achieving something with. Instead they try to ruin it by selling it out!
I have seen alot of examples of 'them' being offered to come play with the BIG boys instead. "Ofcourse you can join us, all you have to do is bring your memberlist and other type of intel you can get your hands on"
There is a 5th race in Planetarion, and that is the spies.
It's like they are competing on other levels of the game.
..and ofcourse they love showing of their accomplishments.
By doing this they help each other getting a better overview of more alliances than what they could've achieved on their own.
The quality of Intel that's being gathered varies alot. Which is understandable considering all the factors involved here. There is alot of disturbances on the way from the source to it's end receiver.
Another interesting element that is of interest when talking about Intel, would be something called Counter Intelligence.
However that's another chapter..
Looks like this thread is starting to get abit lnoger than I first planned on writing. So I'll try to shorten it down abit
..for now
I might comment along the way, if the thread keeps on spinning
When conscerning which alliances we had spies in, I would have to say all of the above
+ aLOT more ;;DD

Spying is a fine art indeed. Ya gotta have different crews doing different things. Your main crew 2-3 spies per alliance that your after. 1 to port from at least and 1 to play around with to make him the scapegoat. Your crew of peeps who will leak info on purpose to "big mouth" peeps <did a demonstration in Legion r7> . Then you gotta have a few peeps that will discredit your info thus making it easier to spy and I did that often.
Myself I often spied on Rah <lenin and maddix knew why> and Fury using a few old Xanadu'ers and a couple of old Fury peeps who did not like the fact some Xanadu'ers joined, and then on Adelante where I got their memberlist longgggggggggggggggg time before Jornx played with their Arbiter I just kept hush about it , well after I gave it to titans and some others I did. I had access to Fang, LDK and Virus. <LDK and Virus knew I did but I told them I wasnt spying on them cause I wanted them to win> I did not however have access to Titans and there wasnt any need as I was giving them all my information. I had dormant spies in elysium, WP and there was no need to use them due to so many other spies it was beginning to be a member list of all spies in those alliances. MDK was to easy I think everyone had spies in there as well.
The Fury members would have been better protected hadn't so many leaked out their own coords to friends who would tell on them. Other wise fury arbiter wasn't so easy to play with due to limited checks, red flags and the damn time you had to check from which was annoying. Most peeps found this round were due to them simply leaking their own coords out.
I used spies and spied myself mostly to disrupt oppositions attacks such as where and when they will attack and then announcing this openly to the alliance, if they changed target i'd still find out so I pre-warned peeps. Or to find out if a target is getting real defence or fake defence due to this rounds stupid MIL SCANs heh.
good spies over the rounds Id say were.
Torz: ALWAYS annoying , dunno if he spied but he got through often lol a few times due to ignorant mistakes on us he was excellant practice for spy-hunting. He is a cool guy I like him.
Lenin: Gr8 guy nice annoying spy to. Helped open my eyes a few times.
Zhukov: Gave me nice information since r6 I do believe.Cool guy fun to talk to, reminds me of me from R2 about his aggressive ways of spying. All legal though.
Ribs: r5 had a rocking list
Ghengis: Mr. Fury man was pretty good till he went idle heh
Merlin: not to shabby

hehe, I remember seeing Axis_WLF searching around on NoS server quite often during early parts of r7...
You and your (wo)men are pretty active.
Being a good spy is truly a piece of art.
I'll admit to that.
But still I don't like them ;P but I can reckognize them for their work.

i notice a few 1337 pl3pl3 here that actually have spi0rs. A question, a spy to you is 1) someone that joined the alliance with only mind to destroy the alliance and get information from them, or 2) someone that isdedicated to their alliance but give you information because they consider you a friend, witch is more worth to them than the alliance ..?

Anyone who gathers crucial information on different alliances while serving in a main alliance himself or someone that gathers information on alliances but in turn sells the information to other alliances in return for aid such as protection which is what I did while spying on adelante.
Then there is another breed, the trader spy. One who is in an alliance for example beginning of a round things are going good. However 1 alliance member ends up in an all hostile cluster, this person is in turn threatened to leave, spy the alliance or die etc. ALSO note all trader spies that I have dealt with have DIED in the round they did it in. However Summy who in r6 was extremely loyal to Legion stuck it out in a hostile cluster and As I promised I would we went in and I BEAT THE DOG ***** outta 1:23 heh : ) I did that one personally and it was FUN! So trader spies ALWAYS die.

talking about LEFF's R6 account? heh, think a lot of ppl had access to that one.
Sometime before midnight i said i expected 03.55 incomings and asked if he was available to def then. He just handed me the login without more questions
( for those wondering wether i used it or not; attack was canceled)

I weren't actually a spy, but when i decided to leave Entinity and rejoined HR i accidently gave my login name and password to ETY's webby to SethMace
Don't know how long he had access to that account since i never gave a clear quitting message. Don't think there were much important information that he got from it, since ETY weren't HR's enemies. Besides it were mostly spam on the forum, except for a thread were ppl were posting they're choords
