That was fun, got it down to the 1 mil and £750. Took the deal of 400k, turns out the 750 was in the box. Just aswell.

Re: [Game/Link]Play Deal or No Deal...
well you both doing it is pretty unlikely... I wonder if there's a bias in it for higher numbers. (I only got $75 but it was between that and 500000 and had an offer up to 240k).
Anyway the thread seems pretty pointless now

Cha ching!
First (and most likely last) go. Though at least I didn't have to look at Noel Edmonds.

after watching the US and Australian versions of the show, I came to realise that Noel Edmonds' way of doing it is actually rather good

I'm sure the American version is a travesty of a thing. As for the aussies, anything I've seen of theirs just mirrors the states.
Shows like these only work when they are tacky little things to preoccupy housewives and distract the elderly from their inevitable deaths.
It has to be an ugly man in a beard, standing around surrounded by people with ASBO's against them and the types you'd see standing in line for disability payments.
Chipboard boxes with red acrylic paint.
Prizes that almost always are cheaper than a new car.
That's how it's to be done.

Re: [Game/Link]Play Deal or No Deal...
Playing it when its not for real money will drastically change how you act since your utility function will probably become linear
edit: I havent watched the actual program, I only know the gameshow exists because there was a thread on SA ages ago where people were arguing over whether, if the $1m is still left and there are only 2 boxes, switching would increase your chance of winning a big prize (it wouldnt).

I think it would actually become concave.

Re: [Game/Link]Play Deal or No Deal...
I had the 100k first time, there were a few occasions when in reality I would have taken the money but, what's the point heh?

Re: [Game/Link]Play Deal or No Deal...
Deal or no Deal as a "game" is virtually worthless, it's only interesting aspect being the decision making*. The version linked in this thread is made doubly (triply!) worthless for two reasons. Firstly (as Nod said, using more obscure words than I would have chosen ) the decision making aspect is terrifically warped to the point of irrecognizability from the original. The saving grace of which was removed before the first line of programming code for this "version" was written. If you have somehow failed to "get it"... If there is no money at stake then people just continue and continue to see how they will do and go for the BIG PRIZES at any cost.
However, what if the player tries to put themselves in the mindset of someone playing it irl? Surely some kind of value could be taken from it then? Nay, even that has been wrestled away from us. It certainly seems as if the designers of this version felt it neccessary to allow the players to "win" far more easily. A glance at the results from this thread should convince anyone of that.
I know that me typing this out to bemoan the wasting of time which this game is causing is tinged with a certain irony, but I don't care.
* Which IS actually interesting, the richer the country that the game is in (it's in many) the more risks the players take. If the kind of play that goes on in the UK were seen in one of the poorer one's it's in then they would be viewed as terribly irresponsible. More to the point, that kind of play would simply be rarer.
