Net Send

I am using Windows XP Pro SP1
Along with everyone in the office.

When I try and do
net send *

In the command prompt I get the following

Code:
C:\Documents and Settings\dan.blowers>net send max-01 test
An error occurred while sending a message to MAX-01.

The message alias could not be found on the network.

More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2273.
Does anyone off the top of their head know what the problem is?

If I type
NET HELPMSG 2273
I get

Code:
C:\Documents and Settings\dan.blowers>NET HELPMSG 2273

The message alias could not be found on the network.

EXPLANATION

This message alias could not be located.

ACTION

Check the spelling of the message alias. If it is correct, then the computer tha
t is to receive your message may be busy. Try sending the message again later.
Cheers

Re: Net Send

type net view and see if the comp exists first.
or try pinging the comp "ping name"
if they work, then i think you have disabled the Messenger service, enable it in services.msc

I will e-stab anyone who says that the service is related to MSN/Windows Messenger or that it advocates spam.

Re: Net Send

Code:
C:\Documents and Settings\dan.blowers>ping max-01

Pinging max-01.4front.local [192.168.1.31] with 32 bytes of data:

Ping statistics for 192.168.1.31:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms
And under "Messenger" the Status is Started and NOT Disabled.

But I restarted the Service and it appears to work now.

Thanks

I don't want to help you for the simple fact you are using ME and you chose to use ME

I don't beleive ME supports Networking so it won't?

i know from experience that linksys routers seem to not like the name system used in doing netsend

so u can just do

net send IP Message

and that will do it as the router doesn't have any trouble with IP address

Godlik3 is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Net Send

There are some nice GUI's for net send too, and it hides your IP/computer name but only displays your login name to the receiver.. I used to tease ppl at school with that GUI

and sometimes entering "net start" is required to make it work yes...
