help me get money out of ppl at oxford brookes
right, last night i was walking back from jitsu, when half a dozen drunk oxford brookes types came staggering in my direction and fell on my friends bike, damaging the front wheel.

i have the names of the ppl responsible and now i have to phone them up and try to get them to agree to pay to have it fixed.


how should i word my request?

(NB i cant threaten to beat them up on account of my injured knee)

If I were going to do the 'beating the crap out of them' thing, I'd take Kit along with me, and inform them that I would have beat it out of them myself, but I can't because of an injury, so I brought along the dark blue belt who destroyed me knee to do the beating on my behalf.

But I'm not going to do that.

Anyone got any idea how much a new front wheel is going to cost anyway?

£40-60 for the wheel, tyre about £15-25 I'd guess, though seeing as it's someone else paying for it, I'd look at the higher ends of my estimates.

A model/make/vague description would help, specially if you're wanting a like-for-like replacement

When you're a young woman I find the best way to manipulate people into doing what you want is to act dumb. What you look like or whether they can see you is irrelevant. People are stupid enough to automatically assume that if you're young and female you must be helpless and when you don't give them opportunity to think otherwise they try and help you. For your purposes when speaking over the phone raise the pitch of your voice so that it's about a half octave higher than it is normally. Also, speak in a sing song voice and make all declarative sentences sound like they're questions. Your best hope is that when being caught out by a woman the men in question will feel guilty for their behavior and pay up. Now I know that it isnt the greatest thing to act stupid to get what you want but it's worked for me in situations ranging from asking for directions to getting on an international flight without a passport. Anyways, best of luck getting your friend's bike fixed.
