So it got up to the part where she was in the library on t'internet looking at the lighthouse site, at which point i decided to have a look at google to see if it was there (which as we can see it is).

Then my mobile rang.

Because 'the american public'© can't handle the concept of anything good being produced without at least a little bit of help from the good ol' US of A and thus it would never have been popular with them if it wasn't remade.

Exclamation Re: The Ring
I suspect it has more to do with making money out of a foreign film most Americans had never heard of, by essentially copying almost the entire plot verbatim (And yet somehow mysteriously making the entire thing much worse as a result.) and releasing it onto the domestic market for consumption therein.
