Can you crawl under a tank?
Ok, Can someone settle an arguement in my house. Can you crawl under a tank? This all comes from the army advert in the UK where the guy is on the ground and tanks all going past him. My brother said it was a good job 1 didnt go over him as you cant crawl under a tank because they have nearly no ground clearence. I think they do have and I have found evidence on the web of Japanese people suiciding bombing tanks in WW2 by strapping bombs to them and crawling under a tank. So can you still crawl under them?

Re: Can you crawl under a tank?
Probably depends on the type/model of tank but I think you can, since some Soviet tanks have crew escape hatches on the underbelly others probably do.
Not to mention the fact that a lower underside means you have more chance of setting of anti-tank mines or snagging up on an object. I think the odds of a person succesfully crawling under a tank and blowing something up are considered to be to low to degrade performance to defend against, thats what the infantry troops are for

Re: Can you crawl under a tank?
A person can quite easily fit under a Challenger 2 tank lying flat, so long as they're not a fat ****.
(I've been under one on a mechanics wheeled-tray thingy at the open day of my brothers old barracks.)

Re: Can you crawl under a tank?
A google image search shows quite clearly that with some tanks, it is physically possible to crawl under them.
Why not try that in future? :|

Re: Can you crawl under a tank?
Yes of course you can.
How do you think tanks are serviced in the field? They dig a big hole underneath them and find the right bits?

Re: Can you crawl under a tank?
Thanks. I knew I was right on the ground clearence thing. As I told my brother, unless they have a reasonable amount of clearence they would hit every rock or mound with the under side.

Re: Can you crawl under a tank?
dude, if you're arguing with your brother, the correct thing to do is beat him around the head until he accepts your point of view as fact, not come and ask on GD for actual facts

Re: Can you crawl under a tank?
The US M1 Abrams tank has 19 inches of ground clearance (that's in tracked mode--when it's reconfigured into 'Imperial' Walker mode it has over 9 feet of clearance ).

Intern joke with myself and well...any swede here.
When I saw Transformers, a long time ago I was six-seven years old.
We didn't know any english whatsoever so we just made a guess .
Another line was "formalick your daim"
Wich I still don't know what it was supposed to mean
BTW: I saw the movie Transformers (were Optimus Prime dies) just a week ago. Is it really THE Orson Welles who does the voice for that planetkillerthingy?

Re: Can you crawl under a tank?
Well somehow Eric Idle seems more....natural for the part.
Orson Welles is a frigging legend.
