Boost scanners
Completing scan techtree, or making x amount of scans. AKA dedicated scanners could get some bonus to balance out from the loss of income lost due going amps and thrue scan techtree.
Even if u were actively moving fleets, its nearly impossible to keep the value up compared to casual players.
Why punish people, who actively try and help their teams?

Re: Boost scanners
If I play a medic in a multiplayer FPS game, I won't get any kills. If I play a tank in WoW, I won't deal any damage. PA is just another team game. Not everyone needs to get a bajillion value to contribute.
On top of that, there's a sizable number of people who enjoy playing as a scanner (god knows why), who never play a standard value planet. Pit, Xyphistor, Will, Bram and rUl3r come to mind.
And finally: alliances don't seem to have major trouble finding people to scan for them. Why fix what ain't broken?

There are people playing dedicated scanners, but you can also have a planet that is played "properly" and be a scanner at the same time. Added bonus then is a small amount of XP gained on a daily basis. One does not exclude the other completely. And it is not mandatory to either be "first" with AU's or be top amp planet to be useful as scanner.

Re: Boost scanners
High amp scanners is fine to be dedicated, but cat au rushers have no excuse to have a decent planet by tick 500, especially with anarchy now a thing

You shouldn't include me in that list, I usually have < 20 amps...

Re: Boost scanners
I mostly went by the top scanner lists Appoco posts, on which you're usually pretty high up. But that's fair, it's really the amps that stop scanners from doing as well as other players, the scan costs mostly come from the fund.

Re: Boost scanners
I've seen in countless rounds a t10 scanner also well inside the t20 at the end of the round. It is surely possible to do. Yeah ter 250 amp scanners wont be breaking t600 but they are very good to have. I remember a couple rounds where one side of a block only had like a 120 amp scanner and they were having issues with some of these 150 dist xans spamming them with fakes. So no I dont think it needs a boost. As Kaiba said Cath scanners its almost not even a penalty, altough with new population thing might be, you can have your scans done by pt70 and then get yourself back into the game with 1-2 good xp lands on 500 roid planets suddenly your back in t100.

This is a ridiculous statement imho. Have you even been running an alliance the last 10 years?
I know HEROES had Anne to scan for them, as i used to beg her to help us out with scans as we didnt have sufficiently enough dedicated scanners ourself.
If alliances have no major troubles finding scanners, why has so many tags been resorting to illegale scan scripts and bots/multies to get scans?

Re: Boost scanners
Jintao played over half of round 49 as a dedicated scanner/def planet and came rank 1 by 1176.

Re: Boost scanners
heh, yes u can gain XP. But XP gives u no value. If u build decent amount of amps, it sure do harm your game. Don't be ridiculous. Sure in a good team that defends your roids, u can climb up ranks too.
Sure its a teamplay and I am happy to take one or two for the team, but it can still be better built. Why compare to some other shit games? Why not build ours better.
rUl3r scans cause he is a proper player from better games and probably doesn't really bother other than that anymore.

I can only speak from my own experience. *shrug*

I look forward to hearing on the grapevine that the evidence you provided to the multihunters led to the closure of many scan planets.

Re: Boost scanners
Eyes open MZ... I played 1 week and 1 round and know this game is full of scripts that autoscans incomings, analyze newsscans and so on. External tools integrated to the game.
I would consider the bot checks etc indicating that those aren't exactly quite wanted by the game makers.
Ofc it requires that login from x player in that 2h window, when it autologins u.
But it might tempt more people to go for scans if u were actually able to play more on same level as rest.

Re: Boost scanners
I think there is two camps when it comes to scans.
There is purists like butcher who say scanners should be dedicated planets performing manual scans 24/7 for 7 weeks. This is imo outdated though as a game with <600 suffers when 20-30 of its planets are not competing for score or providing active fleets for at least 70% of a round.
On the other side there is someone like me I guess who thinks that scans should be available to all. I think scans reliance, especially with cloaked fleets means too many times players are roided or lose ships because a scanner couldn't be found to give them basic information about what's happening.
P/D/U/L/N scans should all work on every tick with 1 amp needed only. A, I and J should be specialist scans which provide even more detailed information than currently provided. I scan for example should show a cloaked fleet fully. A scan should provide the complete fleet and individual overview of the 4 fleets composition (cloaked ships not shown). J scan should be red/green coloured to help dustingush att/def.

Re: Boost scanners
I don't think scanners need any additional benefits atm. Ended top 10 as main ally scanner, even before xp was awarded for it, and know many others who did the same.

Re: Boost scanners
Havnt seen it as a problem also so far.
But i think scanners would be happy to get some extra boosts if the yare heavy on amps.
Example every 50th amp gets you a small mining boonus, rises alertnes or gives a small alertness boost.

Increasing value is the last thing a dedicated amp scanner wants since it makes incoming more likely, which means either having to find room for a factory to self-cover, or draining def fleets from their ally (punishment for having a dedicated scanner?).

Agreed. Defending against incoming shouldn't require a separate small group of people to be available at any hour of the day just to provide information. People don't even need to be around for their ships to be launched for def anymore, so why should scanners? Making scans available for all would also remove any unfair advantage gained by groups with scripts/etc for automated scanning, without having to gather any evidence of their rule-breaking.

Re: Boost scanners
Value means better fleet means easier to cover incs.
But yeah, giving scans to the tag would be a good option.
