[Discuss] amps & distorters ships

Would it be interesting to have amp ships and distorter ships. You send amp ships with your fleet to scan your target, the closer the eta, the more accurate the scans, and you send distorter ships to prevent him from scanning you, the closer the eta the more powerful the distorters become.
ofc the ships do work when they are in base but they're more efficient closer to the planet you want to scan/scramble (coz you scramble the reception at the planet not the emission from the ships). There are formulae specialist around here, i'm sure they could come up with something workable.
or is this idea just crap ?

we could keep the constructions as 'decryption stations' only to receive the scans, as long as you have 1 building you can listen to your scan ships.

Would this varying degree of accuracy of scans apply to simple tech or structure scans? IE we have to attack them and get down to eta 1 before scanning to get an accurate representation of what's really on a planet?

Well, there used to be a distinction between the "lower" and "higher" scans - in the past that was Sector/Unit/PDS were "lower" scans, and News/Military scans were "higher" - i think in R3 in particular you needed to sacrifice Hyperspace to get Military scans.

Anyway, you could make the Jammer/Amp ships apply only to the higher scans - JGP and Fleet scans now - and still have the normal amp/distorters for all the other scans.

As a side note, wouldnt Jammer ships be more powerful the further away the fleet was from the target? Furthermore, this would make it very hard to get a fleet scan on a person who has just launched at you - but you dont really need a fleet scan when he is ETA 1 as you are prolly buggered anyway if you didnt notice it earlier. On that matter, Xans wouldnt need Jammer ships as they tend to be somewhat immune from Fleet scans already.
