Fonts screwed up in windows

A few days ago some of the fonts in some windows applications and ie have just changed themselves. Where earlier on websites or in applications the text was arial, it is now some small fat undeciphirable font. I haven't changed any settings, it just sort of changed by itself. Anyone familiar with the problem? I have win me, yes i know that is the biggest problem of all, but i really don't have a choice...

Is there any place to download the standard windows fonts again and set them up all over again?

right click the desktop

select properties

click appearance tab

check each option in the scroll down window to make sure it is using the correct fonts.
