Curious Thing in firewall log
I was browsing the log my firewall thing (ZOne Alarm) produces, and noticed an "incident" originating from servers at my university. Some belong to the centre for scientific computing.
Now i'm just wondering what on earth they would be sending packets to my computer for. Any ideas? not really a problem, i'm just curious

Are you running any file sharing application?
Do you have any shared folders?
Even if you don't have shared folders it is possible for people to interrogate your machine in order to find out if you do or not - some firewalls may see this as an attempted attack using your NetBIOS port.

To pin it down it would be helpful to know what port the 'incident' targetted and what transmision protocol it was using, amongst other things.
Pasting the log from the firewall is your best bet (the 'advanced' one, if it has such a thing).

ah, while looking for an "advanced" bit, i found an explanation.
It was port 137, which as you suggsted is for "normal network traffic". Still strange that some dodgy CS professors want to listen to my music
