bcalc.com announcement
I figured this was the best place to put it...
I'm announcing that from round 10, I wont be maintaining the bcalc.com battle calculator
I also highly doubt that I'll be playing R10 at all - and its probably for the same reason that a lot of peeps have quit for, so I wont bore you with the details
Surfice to say that its the scale of alliances which I feel have been PA's biggest downfall - and I really hope, for the future of PA's sake, that something big and unpopular is done for R10 to curb the ability of alliances to grow so large...
Anyway, I'm giving you guys a fair bit of notice so that anyone who wants to can pick up the code and play (and while I'm still around to offer any help I can with the existing code)
Chances are reasonable that even though I wont be maintaining it, it could still be hosted using the bcalc.com domain if whoever is going to maintain it so wishes - post on the bcalc forums or reply here or email me or something if you so wish
Perhaps its premature of me to talk about R10 since R9 has only just started, but heeeeeey
Anyway, its been fun and a pleasure
[edit]
I forgot to say that if someone wants their r10 calc hosted using bcalc.com, it must be open source so that everyone can verify that no scans are being nicked for alliance X's gain (thanks for reminding me hyfe :P)
[/edit]

THANKS very much for all the great work you have done.
I think Creators should seriously consider owning the domain www.bcalc.com and hosting it for the PA community. Its a vital part of it and everyone knows that address by heart and uses it like crazy.

From what I understand Mit will be keeping an up-to-date version for the official Toolkit.

say what? no stats?
then what's the point?
numbers>gfx but might as well go play a game with gfx if we can't have the numbers.

Not releasing the stats would be pretty silly--even by PA standards. It would mean players would have to compute the stats from battle reports (not unlike what we had to do in the earlier rounds when the released stats were full of errors/typos ). The larger alliances, with access to lots of battle reports, would have yet another advantage. :/

Having questioned this I was assured that
1. Calcing will not be as much of an issue as it surrently is.
2. A mass of battle reports will be no use inworking the stats/formulae out.
#1 I won't comment on as I really don't know enough about R10 but I fail to see how #2 can possibly be true. Unless the results are totally random the original data can be extrapolated from a large enough statistical universe.
As for large alliances having the advantage, I plan to open a battle report repository (should it turn out to be necessary) where people can paste reports and they will be available for download by anyone interested in helping The R10 Bcalc Cause(tm).

beta-studios will be glad to host or takeover the role of bcalc.com weather it be using the domain itself or hosting it ourselves..
Just mail [email protected] and we can discuss this further.
Thank you for your time
