I should really open my curtains
Well today I woke up about 1pm, just relaxed played a bit of poker, watched some tv and just relaxed. I just opened my curtains and window to have a cigarette and low and behold its snowing.
From the looks of it hasnt just started snowing. NO its been snowing for a good couple of hours, I feel robbed.

It is not uncommon for the southeast (kent/sussex) and east (east anglia/essex) to get more snow in a year than the north. The reason for this is because apart from northerlies and north-easterlies; easterlies and south-easterlies tend to produce the most snow (picking up moisture from the north sea or the channel). Easterlies and south-easterlies with the right setup in winter are also the coldest of the winds and hit the east/south-east the worst (which explains why for example over the past few nights its gotten down to about -8c at night in kent and is relatively warm in the north).
Due to their proximity, and the fact that these counties are exposed and in the firing line of precipitation they will be more likely to get snow than places anywhere in the west and north west (england) and more often than not more snow than places in the north-east (of england).
Most people wrongly assume that the north should get more snow than the east/south-east.
I am of course not taking into account the pennines or other high hilly regions (which due to the relief factor will get more snow)

Well you're not entirely wrong there. If by the south you mean places like hampshire, you'd be correct. They barely get any snow because they are sheltered/too far away from the east coast to get the precipiation that usually dies off quite quickly when hitting the coast and are not exposed to any winds that come from the west.
If by the south you mean london, you'd be correct again. London is not relatively as exposed, and due to the 'heat-island' effect (basically being an urban area, heat is trapped and keeps the temperatures about 1-5c higher than rural areas) they don't see snow often. In the UK snow is usually a touch and go factor, with temperatures hovering degrees around 0c, if its just a tad too warm it wont snow and London usually gets on the unlucky side.
The reason why you probably think that is because of London. Most media reports will focus on london (which hardly gets hit by snow) and neglect east-anglia/kent.

Hmm haven't been into t-wells for a drink in ages. Even when i was here over summer/autumn i mostly went to sevenoaks. The one time we went to t-wells was coco-lounge and that was a disaster of a place.
Just came back because im on 2 weeks unpaid leave. No friends are here at the moment (uni or london) so i'll be glad to see the back of it :/

In relation to the original topic, I wish I had some curtains as it might keep some of the heat in.
Does anyone know where you can buy cheap but very thick curtains (preferably black, but I'm not fussed).

surely you've lived here long enough to know that there's a wall through which snow doesn't penetrate around the city, and only in the outlying regions (like tiverton) do you get snow of sensible proportions.
