Converting a CD track to an mp3
How do i go about doing it?
I want to make some random CDs for a house party and it would be useful if i could just convert the songs i already have on CD rather than downloading all the songs.

Re: Converting a CD track to an mp3
That's WMP 8 or 9, and it only converts to .wma files unless you have a special magic addon that costs money. Of course, if it's only for CDs, you can then make the cd straight from the same copy of WMP.
www.download.com has everything the budding CD Ripper needs, though.

That is what I do but then they are wma files. Recently been covering them then to mp3 files using "Active WMA Studio" - http://www.shelltoys.com/wma_studio/ .

Re: Converting a CD track to an mp3
If you want perfect rips then use EAC (Exact Audio Copy) with the Lame encoder, go here for guides on how to set up EAC properly and to get a good lame compile. It'll sound better than CDex and its error correction is better too. **** WMP.

Re: Converting a CD track to an mp3
Why do they need to be in mp3 form to make custom CD's???
You can make them from WMA files too.

lets see lossless > lossy > lossless.
Great work champ!
Exact Audio copy can extract straight to WAV which I reccomend for burning to CD, this will guarentee that the CDs will be good quality

Re: Converting a CD track to an mp3
I haven't seen anything wrong with WMA.......
But I use 'Acoustica MP3 To Wave Converter Plus'. I can't remember where I got it from though. Had it for ages.

Re: Converting a CD track to an mp3
Just like MrMighty, i'd recommend cdex. It's free, fast and small enough to be downloaded fast with even the slowest of connections.

I hate most of the multimedia programs for being bloated and annoying.
CDEX for me.

Re: Converting a CD track to an mp3
EAC and LameMP3 is defenitely the combo of choice! Go for it, although it's for advanced users.
(Used Xing AudioCatalyst before, very simple and fast, but it's said to be bad quality).
