Scanning and Scan Planets

These have become a very much specialised area within the game, alliances in particular have dedicated scan planets and there are even some Freelancers that decide to follow this route.

My proposal is that a 5th Race be created one that is dedicate to scanning and intelligence gathering.

"The Ecosians" <suggested name>


-The ability of this race would be to attain scans and to research the scan tree at a 20% faster rate than all the other races.

-This would be the only race that can develop the full scan tree to Military Scans the rest being restricted as far as Fleet Analysis on incoming fleets.

-However there would have to be a trade off for the attainment of these abilities:

Perhaps remove the abilty to research the final eta reduction, or the ability to build BS/CR ship types and SK's, but give an expanded Fr/De fleet with 3 pods types fi/fr/de or fi/co/fr.

I am not suggesting that the "other" races wont be able to attain scans but that they would be limited as above and with the 20% slower research time than "The Ecosians"

The benefits:

1) a new race to the game
2) a new tactic to employ
3) an option for an independant planet to follow that gives them a real edge on the allied players
4) every galaxy would want one, thus reduce the number of exiles we see of scan planets getting shunted round the universe
5) scans made by the scan planet could be made available much like the toggle for alliances to the officers in the galaxy, but perhaps on an individual basis (per scan) in that there would be a box to check saying make available to galaxy/alliance or even a specific planet address.

This final feature would enable a scanner to make the scans needed at a time that is suitable to him/her and leave them available for the appropriate planet etc..

Hmm i like the idea of a "scanner race". With that said, i must say that xan's would be overpowered towards those gals without a "scanner race"/mil scans planet. Else it's sound interesting =)

If scanners have access to military scans, a majority of the active playerbase will have access to military scans. As per this thread, it's been generally agreed that re-introducing them was a good-intentioned but bad idea with modern game mechanics as they are.

Not necessarily. That would only be true if they couldnt have access to another from a different gal, or from their alliance - and a significant portion of those who get exiled around sign up as this race ( and are active ).
An inactive planet will get exiled around regardless of their race

They can already do that using ingame messaging or pm's. Simply message them the links

Its an interesting idea to be sure, but not one i think would work out in the end

bah boring make amps and dist be the same and make that you can only do a specific amount of value of ships per respective factory so the damn constructions make sense to fiddle with

its too much narrowminded thinking then it comes to development of this crappy game nowadays :/

that's a ****ing great thought, a single factory can only produce say 10mil resources worth of ships maximum etc, good stuff robban! would definitely make things generally a little more interesting

It wiould also pinpoint scanners, just because they pick that race. Endless structure kilelrs would be their fate.
