Re: Ding, Dong, Moderation is dead.
So basically the only remotely moderate individual within the bush administration has ****ed off because he knows he cant stop another war, more casualties, and more damage to the US' world standing.
Bring on the nukes, its about the only thing he hasnt had a chance to play with yet.

Re: Ding, Dong, Moderation is dead.
Let's hope big W doesn't do anything bonkers like appoint Wolfowitz in his place.
If Wolfy is given the state department, then you may as well start preparing for WW3 sometime around 2007.

Re: Ding, Dong, Moderation is dead.
Good point, my mistake.
The USA and it's government-in-power is probably in the strongest state it has ever been, with worldwide admiration for its foreign policy and internal financial balance.

Re: Ding, Dong, Moderation is dead.
It will probably be Rice that gets appointed in his place. I didn't expect Powell to stay, considering he's not exactly in favor of much of what the US has done in the last couple years.
I'm just glad Ashcroft is gone. That guy was a complete whack job.

I'm not entirely sure whether Rice will want the job, tbh. From what I hear, she's be pretty reluctant.

Intelligence Advisor is a much more interesting position in my opinion. She doesn't strike me as the diplomatic type really. Instead of schmoozing, she gets to stay largely aloof and world leaders get to worry about just how much she knows about them.
I can't remember who the other "possible" was....of course, it's all speculation at this point, we'll just have to wait and see.
I highly doubt it would be Wolfowitz though..He's gotta be one of the most unpopular people on the planet right now, which is a pretty shitty choice for a head diplomat.

Get over it, he has said since 2000 that he doesn't want to be president and he doesn't want to serve in the cabinet for more then a term. This isn't a shocker.
The man wants to retire.

John Danforth, the US ambassador to the United Nations is supposedly the other frontrunner; although the word now is that Condi will get the nod.

Re: Ding, Dong, Moderation is dead. [TEH BIG COLIN POWELL THREAD!]
Too bad he had to go, but Rice will take his place... and there will still be moderation...
Everybody seems to think that second term president doesnt have to worry about what the nation/congress thinks, but presidents do. IF they dont do a good job in the second term, they will have a hard time getting their man into office.. and congress could impeach a president if they really believe his actions conist of treason or gross negligence.. ie moderator
So far Bush is doing a great job, keep up the awesome work...

It's not as if the administration is looking for much in the way of diplomacy though.

This does not change the fact that being a spook is much cooler than being a diplomat.

Well that's a given, but National Security Advisor is about as high as you can get in the spook food chain. Plus it's a political appointment, so you'll rarely outlast the current Administration. If you have any further ambitions, or want to remain in the political sphere, then a cabinet position is the next logical step up. Supposedly, she wanted Defence--but there doesn't seem to be an opening there just yet. :|
