Am i binge drinking?
My mum keeps yelling at me that i'm spending far too much on drinking and that i'm gonna be an alcoholic very soon. I drink once a week on a friday night, and usually drink the following: 2-3 pints of stella, 2-3 vodka and red bulls and maybe a whiskey and coke. That gets me quite drunk, but i never get hangovers, and have never experienced memory loss and i certainly dont throw up after.

This costs me (including taxi) about 25-30 pounds each friday.


So, am I becomming a raging alcoholic? I only do this once a week and rarely go out every friday in a month, more like 3 out of 4.

Binge drinking is when you dont drink that often but when you do drink you drink quite a lot. So going by that definition yes you are binge drinking, but then so do i and i wouldnt class myself as an alcoholic or anywhere close.

If you're say 14 then maybe u might turn into 1 but I'd say no.

Pyro - I drink a similar amount to you, almost in exactly the same circumstances and costing the same amount...scary, eh?

It's not binge-drinking at all, for me it's a social occasion plus alcohol. If you were a binge-drinker, it'd be the other way around.

The defintion of Binge Drinking is drinking more than 5 units of Alcohol in one sitting for men and 4 units for Women.
By that measure most people binge drink. That's basically just 4 Pints for men.

I don't see how there really can be an "objective" singular definition of binge drinking. My wife hasn't drunk much in the last 5 years, so when she does she's completley smashed after a couple of drinks. While my build is very slight, it takes a lot more for myself. I'd generally say a binge is where you are really physically effected by the amount you drink.

Tangental question : How long does it take to reduce your tolerance to alcohol? I go out most Friday and Saturday nights, and am finding it increasingly difficult to achieve oblivion (on my meagre salary). I usually go to a club, so I don't want to just down a bottle of vodka, as I probably wouldn't be able to walk / think by the time I got there. However, similarly if I wait 'till I get there, then I'll paying extortionate prices and it's impossible to get drunk.

I generally take pills one of the nights, but need something for the other night. How long do I have to give up drinking for it to become affordable again?

By the scientific definition are you a binge drinker? Yes. Does it matter? No. Especially with the quantities you're having.

Also alcoholics can't go more than a couple of hours without alcohol so I think it's safe to say you're not one yet.

I do worse than that at least 3 times a week...
Now - I would call myself a binge drinker, but i drink small amounts (a couple of pints) another 3 times a week.
